Bluebird curse strikes again

Good Morning. It's Monday 22nd June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Bluebird curse strikes again

Leeds missed the chance to go back to the top of the Championship, and go ten points clear of third place Fulham as the Bluebirds made the Whites pay for individual mistakes. Leeds have not won against Cardiff City since 2016; even when Bielsa's side were three goals to the good just before Christmas, somehow they managed they avoided victory.

As far as the stats go, Leeds dominated the game in every department except the one that really mattered. They were made to pay for their complacency in front of goal ten minutes before half time when a stay pass from Phillips was intercepted by Hoilett. The 30 year old ran twenty yards before dispatching the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the area. Having watched the reply again and again, the Leeds defenders could have done a lot better in closing the Canadian International down.

Leeds should have been level in injury time. Roberts pass found Harrison, who struck the ball cleanly from 12 yards, only for Bamford to get in the way on the goal time and prevent Leeds from going in at half time level. Roberts almost levelled on the hour mark. Phillips pinpoint cross was nodded down by Bamford to the right hand corner of the Cardiff goal mouth, only for Bluebirds Alex Smithies to perform heroics by managing to block Tyler Roberts from netting from two yards out.

Cardiff doubled their lead 20 minutes from time after Coopers pass was intercepted by Mendez-Laing who crossed the ball to Glatzel on the edge of the area. The former Bundesliga 2 forward took a touch before half volleying the ball past a helpless Meslier. The Cardiff duo had only been on the field for five minutes when they put the game to bed.

Is Bielsa's use of substitutes poor, compared to other teams? Do Leeds need plan B to get promoted?

Bielsa's post match press conference

A clearly frustrated Bielsa discusses errors, fitness and chances missed. Interestingly the Argentine said it’s not a normal game to concede twice from two mistakes. Where was he when during our previous eight defeats? He also felt Leeds should and could have created more chances, been more accurate with crosses but overall felt his players ran well considering the break from action. Weren't we led to believe our our players were in the top condition?

If you were in charge of the Fulham game

Let's say Bielsa had to attend to a family emergency back in Argentina, and he placed you in charge of the Fulham game. What changed would you make to the starting line up? Would you play a different formation? What about use of substitutes?

The chances we're making are perfectly fine...and the crossing not as bad as some make out. Roberts found Harrison for a great chance, Philips found Bamford for a great chance. Dallas found Bamford for a great chance. there were decent headers from Ayling and Cooper or White too. That's 5 accurate crosses off the top of my head..probably one or two more..How many did Cardiff have.
One cross to their big lump upfront that went yards wide

Apart from three long throws they didn't get in our box in the first-half

Thank you 1964white. Yes a long time through many ups and downs. Another big “up” coming by the end of the season hopefully!
I consider us oldies the lucky ones

Whatever happens from here on is a bonus :)

Not the best start to this mini season but no need to panic yet, a win against Fulham and all is well (even a draw would be ok as it would keep them at “arms length”). I think their 1st goal came just at the wrong time, I sent a message to a mate, just before they scored, saying that we were just starting to turn the screw and that a goal wouldn’t be far away - unfortunately it was scored by the wrong team. Oh well it’s never plain sailing being a Leeds supporter, the last 55 years have told me that!
Welcome to the forum

Sounds like you've supported Leeds almost as long as I have
