Leeds thwarted by lowly Luton

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 1st July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Leeds thwarted by lowly Luton

Leeds once again, with be rueing their missed opportunities between the sticks having been held to a 1-1 draw against Luton Town at Elland Road last night. A combination of edged misses, sturdy framework and goal keeping beyond the keepers means (which we have come to expect from most teams playing Leeds this season) frustrated the Whites in front of goal.

Did the fact that Bielsa kept the same starting line up (for the 4,768 time in a row) help Nathan Jones with his tactics? Surely, if you know what your opposition are going to do up front, you can put a plan in place! Why do Leeds not learn by their mistakes? This was the mirror image of the Cardiff game!

Bielsa's post match reaction

A thoroughly depressed Marcelo Bielsa tries to explain to the the press why his players can not hit a barn door from 18 yards.

Injury update

Leeds will be without Tuesdays nights goal scorer for their visit to Blackburn. Stuart Dallas has a slight hamstring pull, and will be rested until after the weekend. Cooper and Hernandez are also both carrying knocks. Their situation will be monitored! Bielsa said (re Dallas)...

He feels something in the lower back/glutes, but don’t think he’s going to play in the next match. Liam Cooper, it’s a kick, very painful in the side, but don’t think it’s a heavy injury.

Discussing whether Hernandez could get 90 minutes on Saturday, Bielsa said...

We are going to analyse this. He played less than the last match today. See how he feels from now to Saturday. After that we are going to decide.

How did LUTV hold up to record viewers?

Is everyone happy with the quality of LUTV? Put aside your loyalties to former club favorites, but should Beckford get anywhere near a commentary box? What do Emma Louise Jones and Ben Parker add to the party? What about the stream itself, is it good enough?

What about the recording / editing. Several times we missed opportunities when replays were being shown! Should we expect more considering our owner is a Sports Media Tycoon?

It’s said that Bielsa took an average mid-table squad and moulded them into contenders.
When they are at their best they are match winners but nobody can keep up the required intensity over a whole season.
Marcelo doesn’t trust his fringe players enough to rotate, we don’t have anyone on the field to score or create the spark so we are caught in a loop.

I have sympathy with Bamford and Costa if it was down to the floodlights. I know from playing experience that floodlights can totally blind you in regards to seeing the ball if the ball is in direct line with one - you can be a couple of yards to the side and it won't be a problem. Both crosses were delivered from roughly the same spot to the same spot in the box. Not a lot you can really do as floodlights have to be somewhere, only thing I could suggest would be more bulbs at a lower output. Certainly the way they both completely seemed to lose sight of it would lead me to believe them rather than if they simply did bad headers.

Bamford got loads of stick for blocking a goal bound effort at Cardiff but no mention of Roberts blocking Dallas’s certain goal last night when the game was poised at 1-1.

6 to go and 6 clear of 3rd, I’d rather be where we are than Brentford and WBA

Morning Folks

According to the square ball Bamford and Costa said the lights got in their eyes.

Re Lutons tactics, they did get them right. They rotated their squad and omitted four players who were part of the side who won away to Swansea. Plus they had a late in the day injury to contend with. Horses for courses instead of our square pegs in round holes policy.

Five at the back meant we are never able to overload them. Even when we doubled up on the wingers. Plus first minute off the second half, once Jones saw we had went three at the back with Ayling in the three he brought on a pacy forward who scored within four minutes.
They did well considering they have poor players, are a newly promoted and are bottom of the league.

Despite the stats did we ever look like making a breakthrough?

Bamford isn't a lone striker. Phillips isn't a free ball specialist and Pablo cant be the only answer.

It's too late in the day for players to start putting away their chances ....they simply are not natural finishers and the club do not possess one because they have refused to buy one yet they will waste millions on duff loan players . The club are wholly to blame for the piss poor recruitment and if they really believe that they can continue with this amateur policy in the PL (if we get there) they are very mistaken. We have what we have and they may well get us up but for Christ sake get rid at the end of this season and invest in forwards who can create their own goals and finish off what others provide for them.

Yes, agree completely!
