Does Rodrigo offer enough to justify his place and his price tag

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 13th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Does Rodrigo offer enough to justify both his place and his price tag

Spanish International forward Rodrigo was probably the surprise signing not just from the Summer, but possibly from the last decade. The versatile number 9 who turns 30 in March has netted three times for the Whites, in 17 appearances. Reliable stats account 'Whoscored' give Rodrigo an average rating of 6.62. The only players below him are:

Alioski 6.61
Struijk 6.59
Costa 6.46
Hernandez 6.32
Shackleton 6.27
Poveda 6.23
Roberts 6.09
Leif 6.02

Eleven players all rank well above the former Valencia player :

Bamford 7.15
Phillips 7.06
Cooper 7.01
Harrison 6.97
Ayling 6.96
Dallas 6.89
Llorente 6.89
Meslier 6.84
Raphinha 6.83
Klich 6.76
Koch 6.65

As we approach the half way point of the season, does anyone have any regrets over our record signing? In hindsight would you have bought one of the Brentford three? Ollie Watlikns has hit the ground running with Villa. The 25 yo has netted five times, three assists, but more importantly has a rating of 7.28.

Things have not gone so well for Benrahma. The 26m signing has two assists to his name, and only three starts this season. Unsurprisingly, he has a rating of just 6.41 for the Hammers! In hindsight, would you have still bought Rodrigo? Will things get better for him? If a club offered 25m for him, would you accept it?

Wigan youngster on Leeds shopping listg

Sun Sports journalist Alan Nixon is claiming that Leeds have had a second bid turned down for Superkid Sean McGurk. The Wigan attacker, who is out of contract in the Summer has a host of admirers, both up and down the Country, hence the Lancashire club is looking for more money. Leeds originally bid for the youngster in the Summer, just after signing team mate Joe Gelhardt. Unfortunately, the offer was turned town. It is understood that the Whites have upped their offer, but it is still rated too low by officials and the club administrators. Steven Gerrard knows McGurk from his time at the Liverpool academy when the Rangers boss was in charge and the player was a young hopeful.

In fairness there have been some good deals done as well.

And unlike many Directors of Football he doesn’t seem to interfere with the first team or the manager.

We’ve had some value from Costa, but he probably realises that his time is up as a starter and is going through the motions.

If they looked to move him on, I’m sure there’d be some takers, which would recoup some cash.

Rodrigo has undoubted qualities but for a player of his age the fee was too high, for sure.
I think you're right on that score.

I'm a fan of Rodrigo. Think he offers a lot and is yet to show his true worth. Always feel that when he is on his game we're due a goal.

As far as the youngster goes, not sure we need yet another when they're doing so well in PL2 already? We need some first teamers so save the money for them.

Rodrigo looks to have a great attitude and work rate, he is adjusting to the no.10 role and also the way we play. We have seen it with many of the new players that they take time to adjust and when players speak about Bielsa they usally say stuff along the lines of how he got them thinking about the game more and stuff like that, rather than just going to Chelsea etc

He has 3 goals not great but okay and hopefully there will be a few more to come. If he can get into double figures it probably isn't a bad return for a first season. Watkins hasn't really set the world on fire either. 5 goals but 3 were in that Liverpool match where Villa scored 7. Benhrmama looked useful against us, but so have a lot of forward players this season. I do wonder if he was also more fired up because he played us and we supposedly rejected the chance to sign him. He obviously hasn't done much else to not be a regular starter.

You can only support someone or something for so long, Costa's regression is mind boggling to me however there has to be a time to stop and replace...Whilst I have always thought we paid to much for Rodrigo, given his age and lack of interest from other teams at the time in him...IMO it is obvious MB thought from the outset he would not be playing as an out and out 9, so he is a work in progress...I think he brings enough at this time to warrant his place, effort and determination on his part are not lacking, and there is always the feeling with him he will just (all of a sudden) drop into place)...depending on tranfer aquasitions in the future will determine his future at Leeds...Me, I am hoping he "drops into place" I like his efforts...
