Should Leeds have done more in the transfer window?

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 2nd February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Should Leeds have done more in the transfer window?

It’s been one of the quietest transfer windows for Leeds United ever, but this time it’s not because Leeds don’t have any desire, ambition or cash, it’s arguably because we haven’t needed to strengthen the squad this January. Long forgotten Conor Shaughnessy and Jay-Roy Grot departed on permanent deals to Rochdale and German side VfL Osnabruck. Jordan Stevens heads to Bradford on loan with Robbie Gotts on his way to Salford and Ryan Edmondson to Northampton on temporary deals. But there have been no changes to the senior squad.

Leeds United went for an ethos of quality over quantity this summer. Raphinha has been an undoubted success, one of the best transfers in the Premier League this summer. Koch, recent injury aside has been a good signing whilst Rodrigo is starting to prove what he is capable of. But injuries have exposed Leeds United’s relatively thin squad. With nearly £75 millions worth of player currently on the treatment table and arguably a lack of depth in midfield and at left back should Leeds have done more this window? Or is doing business in January just too unreliable?

How would you redevelop Elland Road?

With Premiership survival all but secured and with the recent additional investment from the San Francisco 49ers it would seem talk has begun around realising Andrea Radrizzani’s next five-year vision of solidifying Leeds United position in the top-flight and increasing commercial revenues. Central to this appears to be expanding the stadium with both Radrizzani and 49ers Enterprises President Paraag Marathe talking of building a ‘new’ Elland Road.

With only 35,000 seats currently available, Leeds United have a season ticket waiting list of 20,000 people. There are clear opportunities fir Leeds United to increase their revenues and expand on their match day offering with teams such as Tottenham Hotspur capable of brining in five times the matchday revenue of Leeds United at their new stadium. The top clubs now bring in of the region of £3 million every matchday.

But expanding Elland Road to compete with the top clubs will ultimately mean taking a wrecking ball to some parts of the ground. How do you think Leeds should go about expanding Elland Road, which parts of the ground would you miss if they were lost?

Patrick Bamford for England?

Questions were raised over Patrick Bamford’s ability to step up to the Premier League but he is answering his critics with style. At the halfway point in the season he has already scored 11 goals and 4 assists, currently standing joint fourth in the Premier League top scorer standings. Only Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have scored more goals in the league this season. His performances have caught the eye so much Bielsa was asked in this week’s pre-match press conference if an England call up would be good for the striker.

This question has only one answer which I have given previously. I don’t want to be seen to be giving suggestions to Southgate, the manager of the England team, over his job.

Even if Bielsa won’t be drawn on the question, will you? Should Gareth Southgate give Bamford a call up for the San Marino, Albania and Poland World Cup qualifiers next month?

Should Leeds have done more in the transfer window?

Well no as i said yesterday id say not. Not that we dont need it, we are down to the bare bones now and lack quality in most areas. But we shouldn't get relegated from the position we are in and if not spending in January means we can get Rodrigo De Paul and the highly rated French left back Phil confirmed we are looking at (Romain Perraud) in the summer plus 2 or 3 more then im ok with that. If anything we will now learn what our Championship lads are made of. Dallas, Ali, Ayling, Klich, Harrison, they have to carry us for the time being.

Paddy Bamford.

As others have said I'm not so sure if he is international class. As we have seen with KP, Cooper, take the players out of the well drilled Bielsa system that helps hide deficiencies and those deficiencies show. That being said i could score goals against San Marino, would be a well earned reward for Paddy.

I'd still like a LB and a CM, but happy to wait until summer when deals can be better done.

Sounds like Orta has already been busy doing the groundwork for potential summer transfers. It still feels very un-Leeds to be this organised and strategic about these kind of things!

Agree Re the general consensus, no need to buy in Jan unless a great talent became available. We're mid table. Doing very well. Cb coverage on loan could have been nice but also takes players ages to get up to speed with bielsa's system and so probably would be pointless

January Transfer Window

Never a good time to build a squad, especially this year.

We are sitting halfway up the PL with 29 points on the board, that total may well be the safety net as right now I can't envisage Fulham or West Brom getting past the 30 mark so why panic buy? I personally can see us achieving 50 points plus as long as we don't lose certain key players for a sustained period.

Liverpool have severe problem with long term injuries to four CB's & have signed Ben Davis for £2m from Preston. I was impressed with young Nat Phillips alongside Jordan Henderson as a makeshift CB pairing in their two away victories at West Ham & Spurs.

Question is.....Is Ben Davis a championship CB better than Nat Phillips?

Elland Road development

Immediately the West Stand, then the Revie Stand & take out the corporate boxes in the South Stand.

Unsure Paddy would suit England's style of play, also Southgate or any other coach could ruin his career

The transfer window was good in so much as we offloaded Grot and Shaunessey even though we didn't get anyone. Our current squad should be enough to get us over the 38/40 point line.
I expect Cjay will say we should have got De Paul etc

ER needs to be a 50,000+ ground so people like me can attend on an occasional basis. Before lockdown I had zero chance of getting a ticket.

Patrick for England? He's doing better than I expected if I'm honest but I'm afraid not when it comes to England. Just my opinion.
