Phillips cements his England place

Good Morning. It's Friday 26th March, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Phillips cements his England place

Kalvin Phillips played all 90 minutes for England last night, as the three Lions tore San Marino apart. The 25 year old actually made 21 more passes than the whole of the San Marino team. His work rate and fitness certainly must have been a contributing factor why Gareth Southgate left Declan Rice on the bench. He had a 91.2% pass accuracy, won six duels, 136 touches (second most), and 125 passes (114 successful).

Having watched the game, I felt disappointed by England's forwards, in particular Jesse Lingard. I can't help but wonder how Bamford would have fared, if given an opportunity?

Leeds make new signing

Jonny Madden has left Middlesbrough after nine-and-a-half years to take up the role of Head of Academy Physical Development at Elland Road. Madden joined Boro as a Senior Academy Sports Scientist in September 2011 and had been their Lead Academy Fitness and Conditioning Coach since March 2019. He replaces Rob Etherington, who has now moved up to be a coach for the Under-18s at Thorp Arch. Posting on Twitter this evening, Etherington said he was “delighted” to be moving into a coaching role and added, “Brilliant to have Jonny Madden on board with us.”

Worst Leeds Managers

An news emerges about from Sheffield Utd's owner Prince Abdullah that Chris Wilder tried to quit Bramall Lane on two separate occasions, but only if he was given a 4m settlement, we look at the many Managers Leeds have had over the years. Some good, some bad, some terrible! Who have been Leeds top three worst appointments for the ER hot seat?

I agree SG

He plays for West Ham & Southgate no doubt prefers him.

A good appointment when he rubbished the legendary Revie team and told them to throw their medals in the bin for cheating ? I don't think so. He would have needed 11 new players, because the existing players would have refused to carry on playing for him. He had a thing about Revie and that team which made him a totally unsuitable choice. He was a good fit for Forest but a totally unsuitable one for Leeds. It doesn't follow that we could have had the same success as Forest had the club not sacked him.

Having said that, I do think that Clough taking such a small club from nowhere to two successive European Cup wins is still the greatest feat in English club football management.

KP:
Said it in the Today's Games thread. KP hardly had to break a sweat, and for that reason alone couldn't showcase his true skills. I don't think he's got the nod over Rice yet, and since WH are higher in the table than us is enough justification in Southgate's mind. I think he has done enough to be in the Finals squad, but that may still be in jeopardy depending on how Henderson gets on over the next few weeks.

Worst Managers:
Hell, now there's a list long enough to make me break out into a cold sweat. Certainly the worst I can think of have been already mentioned in this thread, but Colin might just pip everyone for me as I can't stand him, and not just for his anti-football philosophy.
