A Look at Leeds’ Season So Far and Some Useful Betting Tips

Leeds are enjoying their time back in the Premier League and we take a look at the season so far, providing some Leeds betting tips.

Leeds spent sixteen long years in the second tier of English football, and we are now back in the Premier League and boy doesn't it feel good? Let us hope that we can make it more than just a fleeting visit. If the first seventeen matches of the season are anything to go by, I do not think that we will be in a relegation scrap this season. If I have just jinxed us, I am more than willing to take the flak come May. Although, I must admit that it would be typical Leeds to enter a relegation scrap from where we currently sit 11th place and 16 points above the dreaded relegation zone.

We Are One of the Most Prolific Teams

When you sit down to watch a Leeds game there is usually one thing that you can guarantee and that is entertainment and goals. Most managers will adapt their tactics depending on the side that they are playing, but not Bielsa. No matter who we are playing, we will go out and attack them for 90 minutes. Now, this sometimes works, and it sometimes doesn't. For instance, we are probably all still hurting a bit from the 6-2 drubbing at the hands of Manchester United and it was pretty embarrassing to lose 4-1 to Crystal Palace. However, when it works, it works spectacularly as was seen in the performances against Newcastle and West Brom.

When we play, we might not be guaranteed any points, but there is certainly a very high chance that we will find the back of the net at least once. In fact, in that 5-0 drubbing of West Brom, we became the first newly promoted team to score 30 goals after 16 games since Newcastle scored 31 in 16 back during the 1993/94 season. Yes, Newcastle scoring goals for fun, just doesn't sound right, does it? When it comes to goals scored in the Premier League, only Manchester United, Liverpool, and Leicester have scored more than us.

However, some might say this is a bit of a false statistic because the likes of Aston Villa have two games in hand and have scored 29 goals. They have also conceded 20 fewer goals than us, which brings me onto the next point I would like to make.

We Concede Far Too Many Goals

We might be great when it comes to attacking and scoring goals, but it is fair to say that we concede far too many goals, especially from set-pieces. I am not entirely sure if I am right here, but I believe we have conceded the most goals from set-pieces this season. This is not an issue that has just popped up, it is something that plagued us in the Championship too. In our 17 Premier League matches, we have conceded 33 goals. The only team that has conceded more than us is West Brom, and they sit in 19th place in the table. If we are going to continue to have a decent season, we need to be tighter at the back.

A Lot of Praise from Pundits

Leeds have been getting a lot of praise from pundits this season and if you follow Mark Lawrenson’s predictions on BBC Sport each week, you will see that we are sitting in 6th place in his predictions table. There have been others that have been speaking about a potential Europa League spot for Leeds, but although the odds are decent and tempting, I just do not see it happening. We do not have enough squad depth and a couple of injuries to the main team players has a lot bigger impact on us than it does on some of the other teams who have been touted for a top 6 position. While it is nice to get praise from the pundits, I feel that a lot of it is quite premature and I certainly would not be putting any money on us finishing 6th, especially if our defense continues to leak goals. We have been linked with a move for Tomori this January, and we are supposedly leading the race for his signature. I think we can call it a great season if we manage to finish in the top half of the table.

Betting on Leeds

Leeds are great fun to watch (although they do often give us fans a heart attack) and their games can be made even more entertaining by betting on them. But what do we recommend you bet on when it comes to Leeds and what are the best bookmakers with the best odds?

Well, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to football betting sites. The site that you will find if you follow the link is one that analyses all the best bookmakers for British sports betting fans. Their experts have spent hours analysing each bookmaker and have written up in-depth reviews that will tell you all that you need to know about odds, markets, bonuses, payment options, customer support, security levels and so on. I have actually signed up with Betway because I feel that they offer some of the best odds around for football betting.

When it comes to placing bets on Leeds, I think the safest thing to do is to bet on over 2.5 goals being scored. As I showed above, we know how to score goals, but we do not know how to defend them. Out of the 17 matches that we have played, there has been over 2.5 goals in 11 of them. There has been more than 4 goals in 7 of them – you can see why neutrals love to watch up play.

Some things I definitely would not bet on is for Leeds to win or for Leeds to win to 0, no matter how enticing the odds are. Okay, you might tell me that we have kept 6 clean sheets this season, but I just do not trust our defense or keeper at the moment.
