Casilla’s exit rumoured as Orta switches focus to mystery midfielder

Good Morning, It's Friday 9th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Casilla’s time at Elland road nearing an end?

As Leeds United’s players returned to training last Thursday there was one notable absentee, Kiko Casilla. Illan Meslier has most definitely secured his position as first-choice goalkeeper at Elland Road, as such the former Real Madrid and Espanyol keeper may not want to spend another season warming the substitutes bench. It’s understood Leeds Director of Football Victor Orta would not stand in the way of the Spaniard if he found a new club and now LUFCFANZONE have reported Casilla’s agent as saying that the 34-year-old will head to Spain early next week to secure a loan move to a La Liga side.

The former Real Madrid keeper is a popular figure amongst the players and Management staff and has been instrumental in helping Meslier in his progression but could this be the end of Casilla’s time at Leeds? Who would you bring in as a replacement and backup for Illan Meslier?

Orta switches focus to mystery midfielder

With the deal to bring Junior Firpo to the club done, Victor Orta has switched focus to his ‘top target’ of the summer, said to be a mystery midfielder. Marcelo Bielsa has signed off on the transfer and now Victor Orta must sell the Leeds United dream once again. Initial discussions are said to have taken place but are “not at such an advanced stage as to be considered imminent”. Leeds are tight lipped on the player in question, just as they were with Firpo. News of the left backs transfer only broke 10 days before pen was put to paper, by which time negotiations were at an advanced stage.

With Leeds fans yet again tracking flights, this time to Lyon, the speculation is that Houssem Aouar could be the target. The 23-year-old French international has already been linked with Arsenal this summer, with Lyon holding out for a £50m fee.

Could former Gunner prodigy be on his way to Elland Road?

Former Arsenal youth prodigy Kelechi Nwakali could be on his way back to the Premiership; this time with Leeds. The Nigerian has has a disappointing time with Spanish outfit SD Huesca since his arrival in 2019. The midfielder has only made ten appearances during this time. He spent the majority of 2021 on loan at Segunda División Alcorcón. Despite these inconsistencies, Nwakali is highly regarded, with a host of top-flight clubs are being linked to him.

It is expected that Huesca are ready to negotiate a deal following their relegation from La Liga, not to mention the 23yo only has a year left on his contract! The news first broke about Nwakali last week, since then various sources are claiming that he is on Victor Orta's short list!

I didn't get over him calling another person a "f*****g n****r".
Yet his teammates, those closest to him and those that know him as a person managed to get over the allegations of him using a racist term. Even the findings in the case declared they didn't believe him to be racist but that he had probably used a racist term.

If his teammates thought he was racist then the club would got rid of him. Yes he conceded a few soft goals, he also collected the EFL player of the month award in the November of our title winning season. Like him or not he contributed to the team achieving promotion. We have had had far worse keepers than Casillas.

Shame to see Casillas go, though probably for the best given how some fans continually slate him having never gotten over the play-off loss. The way I look at it was that he was, and still is, better than Bailey Peacock-Farrell and with us signing Casillas it meant we were able to cash in on BPF (still can't believe we got £5m for him). Messlier undoubtably our no.1 though and good for Casillas wanting to move to actually play rather than just sitting on the bench.
Leeds got half that for BPF.

So what we got for him we blew on wages in just over a year for Casilla.

So it sounds like we would come to an arrangement over the remaining time on his contract and wish him well.
Suppose it’s worth noting that he hasn’t caused any disruption after being dropped?

Sounds too easy.
