Leeds United was the team that brought in the most surprises and potential in the 2020/2021 season. But how? It’s because the Bielsa Ball had a huge impact on Leeds United’s game, it was a serious game changer for the club. Leeds started the 2020/2021 season with a shwashbuckling performance against Liverpool and whilst they may have lost they opened peoples eyes to what they were capable of. Over the next few games they began to pick up results and they became a danger for any team that they faced. The following Leeds United players Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford, Jack Harrison, Stuart Dallas and Raphinha all played exceptionally well.

Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds Manager, had outstanding tactics. The opposing team had to figure out is who playing in what position because they were constantly moving around, as a result, Leeds United were able to strike at any point during a match and were able to create a good counter-attacking play.

Expectation from Leeds in the 2021/2022 season?

To start off, Leeds United haven’t got a successful pre-season journey, within 5 friendly games, Leeds have only won one. However, within those matches, some first choice players weren’t on the pitch, Kalvin Phillips notably playing a small part due to his late return from international duty.

Leeds United only win in the pre-season was against Guiseley, they beat the side 3-2. Furthermore, from this, Leeds drew 1-1 to Blackburn Rovers, lost 2-1 to Fleetwood, lost 3-2 to Real Betis and lost 4-0 to Ajax. This weekends performance againt Villareal was much improved with a 2-2 draw, the last of the pre-season before they kickstart their 2021/2022 Premier League season, their first match in the league is against Manchester United on Saturday. When it came to UEFA EURO 2020 Leeds had seven players involved, though opportunities for Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Liam Cooper were limited. The stand out star was Kalvin Phillips who won over a lot of new admirers thanks to his quality performances. As the Leeds squad has now had a year of Premier League experience, they could put on much better performances than they did before.

The expectation is that many of them, like Harrison made his move permanent, will be more creative and clinical. He's expected to have a greater impact on the team's goals and assists this season. With the way he dominated midfield in England's EURO 2020 squad and showed versatility playing higher up the pitch, Kalvin Phillips is expected to have another great seeson with a big contribution for Leeds United.

The question is, where do you think Leeds United will finish in the 2021/2022 Premier League season? Do you reckon that that will finish in the top 6 or top 8 of teams? The club finished in 9th place in the 2020/21 season so the hope will be that they can finish in the top half of the table yet again. I'm expecting an up and down season. We'll have moments where we'll be flying high and moments we'll be down in the dumps lurking in places we'd rather not be in the table. But by the end of the season I see us finishing mid table.
