Good Morning. It's Monday 30th September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Rampant Leeds click into gear
Leeds produced arguably their best performance of the season at the weekend, in front of a sell-out 36,625 crowd, thumping Coventry City 3-0. The Whites finally did that they had threatened to do all season, and dismantled their visitors in style. The cogs were turning in unison; they were creative going forward, solid at the back and showed a purpose that up to this point had been sadly missing.
Even after Ampadu limped off on 41 mins, Leeds continued to bully the Sky Blues into submission. His replacement, Tanaka, a £2.9m last minute Summer signing from Dusseldorf looked more than assured in the Leeds Utd midfield. It was the first team Leeds had eleven players, all from different nationalities on the pitch at the same time!
By this point the hosts were already one-up thanks to Gnonto's exquisite 16th minute opener. His first time effort flew past Wilson before he could even react, using the pace of Firpo's cross as leverage!
By the time the half-time whistle came, Leeds could have been four up. Fine saves from Gruev, Ramazani and Joseph had kept Mark Robins side in the game; that is until the 49th minute when Bogle got in on he act. His one-two with Ramazani split the visitors defence wide open, and the former Sheffield Utd man took full advantage.
Leeds made it three with ten minutes left on the clock. Tanaka's delightful over the top diagonal ball found Gnonto deep down the right channel. Unselfishly, he squared the ball to Piroe (a 70th minute change for Ramazani) who grabbed his third of the season from close range.
Writing on the wall for Bamford
For the second game running Patrick Bamford has been an unused substitute, prompting speculation that his ER days could be coming to an end in January. The 31 year old is yet to kick a ball since retuning from his latest in a long line of injuries, taking the bench against Cardiff City. It's difficult to argue with the stats. Not only have Leeds scored five goals without reply, but we've seen players like Ramazani taking their defensive responsibilities seriously - something rarely seen by Bamford, even during Leeds stint in the Prem.
He has 22 minutes of game time under his belt this season, but with a 28.6% pass rate and miserable 6.06 Whoscored rating, is it time for Leeds to let go of the one time England forward, and perhaps encourage a move to the Saudi League, or will his experience later on this season become invaluable?
