Good Morning. It's Tuesday 2nd May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Leeds restructure boardroom as trio depart

Leeds are undergoing significant structural changes at the executive level, highlighted by the appointment of a new Sporting Director and other key promotions as Angus Kinnear, Nick Hammond and Gary Penrice prepare to leave Elland Road for Everton. Whites Chairman Paraag Marathe has sanctioned a reorganisation aimed at strengthening the club's leadership ahead of a crucial summer. Robbie Evans, formerly chief strategy officer, steps into the role of Managing Director, and will also oversee football operations. Adam Underwood, who previously served as head of football operations, has been promoted to Sporting Director. These appointments signal a fresh direction for the club's leadership.

The changes follow the announcement of Angus Kinnear's departure as chief executive at the end of the season. While Peter McCormick was initially appointed executive vice chairman, Marathe has moved decisively to reshape the boardroom further. Alongside Evans and Underwood, Morrie Eisenberg, previously chief operating officer, will now serve as chief business officer, and Fay Greer, formerly finance director, has been promoted to chief financial officer. Evans and Underwood will bear much of the responsibility in the club’s transition.

Evans brings a diverse background to the role, having joined Leeds United in 2023 after 11 years with medical genetics company Invitae. Before that, he gained experience in strategic planning with the San Francisco 49ers. At Leeds, Evans has been responsible for overseeing the recruitment and football analytics departments. Underwood's promotion is a testament to his long-standing commitment to Leeds United. He progressed through the ranks, serving as academy manager for over eight years before assuming the role of head of football operations in July 2023, coinciding with the takeover by 49ers Enterprises.

Having worked closely with outgoing football advisor Nick Hammond, Underwood will lead the club's player trading activities this summer. His responsibilities will encompass the recruitment department, football operations, the academy, performance, and medical aspects of the club.

Real Betis Reignite Interest in Leeds United's Mateo Joseph

Real Betis are reportedly preparing another substantial bid for Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph, according to Spanish news source, El Pelotazo. The La Liga side, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, previously attempted to secure Joseph's services in January, but saw their offer rebuffed by the Championship promotion hopefuls. Despite Leeds United enjoying a stellar season, particularly in their attacking options, with Joel Piroe potentially claiming the Championship Golden Boot, Joseph has struggled to make a significant impact after initially breaking into the first team last season.

However, the young striker's potential hasn't gone unnoticed, particularly at the Estadio Benito Villamarín. The Santander-born youth international continues to be admired by the Real Betis hierarchy, and a summer transfer back to his native Spain could be on the cards, even if Leeds United achieve their aim of returning to the Premier League.

The question remains whether Joseph is truly ready for the demands of top-flight football. His struggles to establish himself in the Championship suggest he needs further development. Leeds United face a crucial decision regarding the 21-year-old's future. They have two viable options: sending him out on loan to a lower Championship or League One club (or Spanish equivalent) to gain valuable playing time and experience, or alternatively, cashing in to the highest bidder.

For me that includes Joseph. Talented youngster but the timing is simply not right to keep him. He is not PL standard right now.

Similarly, as much as he's made a strong contribution this season, I just dont see Brendon Aaronson being a PL player. He will be pulverized by PL defenses. He will warm the bench most of the time as we are bound to bring in a 9 and a 10. (I think anyway).

Le Mes must also move on. And Darlow back to support role to a new keeper???

I am also wondering if Pascal will be with us for the full season???
With a bit of patience I think there is potentially a huge reward that might come our way in relation to Matteo Joseph - much more than whatever we might get for him if we sold him now. Plus a "sell now" decision might well bite us on the bum.

Some of our fans might remember the story around one Jermaine Beckford dating back to 2006. We picked him him from non-league football where he was prolific. He was loaned out to Carlisle United and then also to Scunthorpe. Scunny tried to sign him but we decided to keep him but it was touch and go at the time. He went on to be something of a goalscoring legend. So, we have MJ on contract for another couple of years, and to me, it makes perfect sense to loan him out and then take stock

Brendan Aaronson has done a lot better than I thought he would but I lost count of the number of times this season when I thought that if he had that bit of extra quality he would have achieved so much more for us and himself. Thing is he is at the top of his level in the Championship. He might be OK is some European League of the MLS but he is not good enough for us in the Premiership. We need much better options in our midfield.

Absolutely right that Le Mes should move on. It'll be the best solution for all parties - thank you and good bye.

Pascal Struijk might he OK for us in the Premiership but there has been interest from Belgium and perhaps Spares in him. I'd be minded to let him go for the right price. Ampadu to me would be a better fit at centre back alongside Rondon but we would need more resources in our defence at RB, LB, goalkeeper as well as another centre back (or two id Struijk departs) Not sure about Wober - might tsay, might go but it seems to me Leeds fans are not to fussed about him - I certainly am not.

Joseph needs a change of scenery. As a now 21 year old he has really not accomplished anything. Top players are already producing and getting called into their full National Teams by now. That doesn't look like it's going to happen for him at Leeds. He seems like a good kid. We need to move him on in this window.

Still young, potential etc etc
Not necessarily. A view on each player on their merits I'd have thought although one or two might be a bit myopic
