Re: The Square Ball/The Debrief

Listen to The Square Ball/Phil Hay Show this week .... sorry couldn't find a YT link - I listen on Spotify. Lots of sensible stuff spoken on Orta's signings. Emphasis on Willy Gnonto, A £4m player now worth £40m-plus. Throw Raphinha, Meslier, Strujik and others into the equation and he's got some b...

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 29th March) - Orta: At some point I want to return to Spain

You certainly can. Even at Sunday League level I'd work my players at getting the weight of the pass right. So much easier to knock a 30 yard pass out to someone in space than to actually hit a 5/10 yard pass to someone right. So easy to ping it too hard so it bounces off them, hit it too soft so t...

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 29th March) - Orta: At some point I want to return to Spain

Yes you're not going to turn Cooper into Maldini or Bobby Moore but you can certainly make a player better than they are. I would see countless players, at Sunday League level, with more natural ability then some premier league players but there they were playing on the same pitch as a clogger like...

Not great so far.

Rodrigo and Sinisterra aren't fully fit either so can't see them starting.

Re: Javi Gracia pre Arsenal

Will post the rest but important bit.

Tyler Adams is likely out for the season as has been said elsewhere.

Wober and Gnonto are OUT for Arsenal at least

And despite what some try to say Javi has admitted we have a small squad.

Javi Gracia pre Arsenal

How much confidence can you take from Arsenal in October and Wolves win? All these games is the past. We focus on the next game. We are playing agaionst a team at the top and it will be demanding. The first step is to believe you can do it. Do you have a points target from April? We have a busy sch...

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 29th March) - Orta: At some point I want to return to Spain

Yeah I agree. It’s a very nuanced discussion though I think Cjay. But ultimately you can’t coach someone beyond their natural ability in theory. But I also think it’s possible that a player’s absolute ability level can be somewhat hidden by nerves etc. The really great players don’t just have natur...

Jaydog wrote: Wed Mar 29, 2023 9:11 pm You can definitely improve someone’s technique to a certain extent
Only to the limit of there natural god given ability. . . . . . . .

No amount of training or coaching is going to make Dan James pass, move, dribble, control, shoot like prime Bale.

Actually think Weasel & Cjay are talking about two different things. I agree with Cjay that you can’t beat the ceiling of someone’s natural ability. Impossible to turn Forshaw in to Zidane. Not sure that’s what Weasel is saying though. Lost in translation Maybe so. I'm just saying that every pl...

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 29th March) - Orta: At some point I want to return to Spain

Natural talent is NOT technique, you cannot teach the intangibles. Balance, long speed, short area burst, strength etc. Everything else is teachable You can't coach a player to be able to see a pass and perfectly weigh a pass otherwise every player could do it. You can't coach a player to be able t...

He is winning though, this daft can't teach technique theory of yours is just wrong You cant make any player better than there natural talent level. How's that wrong :duno: Bamford worked with Bielsa for years and is still not a natural goalscorer, why isn't he scoring 25,30 goals a season? Cooper ...

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 29th March) - Orta: At some point I want to return to Spain

I watched that Traore video and the thought that sprang to mind was kick and rush. A few moments of decent skill but mainly kick and rush. Your comment - is baffling. Let's see did Barry White increase KP's technical ability? Yes. Did Barry White give him a quicker brain? Yes, simple things like ho...

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 29th March) - Orta: At some point I want to return to Spain

I would says he is ten times the dribbler that Traore is and more importantly he has been able to do it centrally from box to box. No matter how well you coach a player you cannot coach the speed that James has, you either have that or you don't. Take say Stuart Dallas as an example and Bielsa got ...

Orta . Sounds to me like someone getting there excuses in before a departure. I think he knows he may be let go in the summer ans is getting in first. Interesting he only fronts up to Spanish media, given he was a journalist likely his mates. Never does English media. Adams . He is out, the guy who...
