Think it's fair to say it's not exactly a massive shock, is it? Anyone who’s been paying attention to the stats instead of just reacting to the latest matchday knee-jerk could see something was working behind the scenes.

It’s a bit like when people were completely writing off a player after three games, and then suddenly they look like a completely different individual, aggressive, getting into the right positions, and everyone acts like they knew they’d be brilliant all along. The data was always tracking that way if you bothered to look at it rather than just listening to the usual doom and gloom.

Nothing is decided straight out of the gate anyway. If we win a few matches, the start looks completely healthy and suddenly nobody is questioning the system anymore. Go and have a go at it instead of the usual "we'll see how it goes" nonsense

Right then, Palace.

Funny old game football.

A week ago we're all wondering where the goals are coming from, whether Farke has discovered the concept of defending yet and whether Calvert-Lewin was going to be spending most of his afternoon chasing lost causes.

Fast forward a few days and we've stuck four past Newcastle.

FOUR.

Newcastle.

The same Newcastle who apparently had ambitions of being quite good this season.

So naturally the only sensible thing to do now is completely forget about that result and start worrying about Palace.

Because that's what we do.

THE OPPOSITION

Crystal Palace come to Elland Road having made a bit of a habit of conceding goals.

Eleven in four games.

That's not particularly good.

Although, knowing Leeds, we'll probably discover that they're actually the best defensive unit in Europe by about 3:04pm on Saturday.

They've lost three of their four league games, including a 3-2 defeat to Ipswich last time out, so you'd imagine they'll be arriving with the intention of making themselves rather less accommodating.

And that's the bit that interests me.

Newcastle suited us.

They came to play, there was space, the game opened up and we absolutely punished them.

Palace may not be quite so obliging.

If they sit in, frustrate us and make us break them down, that's a different test altogether.

Which is probably exactly the test we need.

LEEDS

We're third.

Eight points from four.

Four goals against Newcastle.

Calvert-Lewin has scored.

Bogle looks like he wants to play right-back, right-wing and possibly manage the club before Christmas.

Okafor is beginning to look like somebody who might actually enjoy running at defenders.

Everything is fine.

Probably.

The danger now is getting carried away.

We're Leeds United. We don't do sensible progression. We either win 4-1 and start discussing European football or draw 0-0 and somebody on here suggests we need six new players.

There is no middle ground.

TEAM SELECTION

Personally, I wouldn't be making too many changes.

Why fix something that has just absolutely battered Newcastle?

The important thing is keeping the intensity.

Palace will fancy their chances of catching us on the break, so the midfield balance needs to be right.

I'd like us to start positively, get them on the back foot and make them defend.

Not spend 25 minutes passing it between the centre-backs while the Palace players have time to pop home for their tea.

CALVERT-LEWIN

Worth a separate mention.

He looked a completely different player against Newcastle.

Strong, aggressive, involved and, most importantly, getting himself into the right positions.

If we can get decent service into him consistently, he could be a very useful player for us.

And if he scores again on Saturday, we'll all be pretending we knew he'd be brilliant from the moment he signed.

THE PALACE THREAT

We shouldn't underestimate them.

They've scored goals despite the poor results and they've got enough pace and quality to hurt us if we get sloppy.

Our full-backs will need to pick their moments.

There's no point Bogle getting halfway to Wetherby and leaving somebody else to deal with the counter-attack.

We've got to be better without the ball than we were in some of the earlier games.

SO...

This is one of those games.

Win it and suddenly eight points becomes eleven and the start to the season looks very healthy indeed.

Lose it and the Newcastle result becomes "just one of those days".

Personally, I think we should be looking to win this.

We're at Elland Road.

They're shipping goals.

We're coming off the back of a 4-1 win.

Go and have a go at them.

None of this "we'll see how it goes" nonsense.

You can bend AI to your will, and I guess the prompt Cjay gave was neither negative or positive, the language must have been balanced, and therefore the resulting text received a general acceptance from the forum members for being well meaning and optimistic.

And therein lies the rub. AI can cobble words together without really understanding the subject.

I asked AI to liken debating football to a failed swordsman and it came up with this:

which is fine but doesn't really mean anything. Whereas if it could actually think for itself would surely have come up with something more akin to this:

Ai is very much like judging football simply by statistics, and that is what AI would do if picking a starting XI. There wouldn't be any attempt tp make a cohesive side, meshing talents together, finding players that complimented each other. It would just be who has the best xg, highest pass percentage, most clearances etc. It wouldn't understand the game.

I got to 9873 and then forgot as the doorbell rang and I had to put all my peas back in their jackets and then take them out again. I’ve resumed and now on 375.
