Majority of Berardi's red cards have come between 73 & 90 minutes

I have preferred that scenario on Saturday, we may have got something out of the game

Free the Berardi Bear. In my eyes his last 2 reds have both been down to awful refereeing.

So true but his reputation goes before him now and every ref just needs any sort of invite ti dismiss him.

Cant read the article because I'm not subscribed to The Athletic.

However Phil said this in relation to the Berardi red vs Millwall.

The panel who overturned Berardi's red card at Millwall did not even rule on whether he denied a goalscoring chance because replays showed it wasn't a foul. They also said Tom Bradshaw's fall was "not consistent with any contact" - but he wasn't cited:

That any clearer to anyone?

The boy's a beast. While he's not quite as capable as some of the others on the roster, he always gives everything he has.

Fitted in like a glove alongside Cooper, one of most composed players on the park last night

He’s only been on the losing side once this season when he was (wrongfully) sent off v Millwall

Agreed. Just wish he was a little taller as a CB. We don’t have many weaknesses, but height at set pieces is certainly one of them.

Marcelo Bielsa on Gaetano Berardi: “One of the best performances of the team (past 2 games). For our team he is very important. For his contribution every time he has to play. He is also a leader, supporting every teammate. Everybody respects and loves him."

Gaetano Berardi has now kept 11 clean sheets in 17 Championship appearances this season. Leeds have conceded just 0.29 league goals per game with Berardi in the side, the best average of any Leeds player to have played 350+ minutes in the Championship.

Hudds commentators slagged him off at every opportunity, couple of early passes went wayward but better than PJ for me. Still kinda hopes he gets rewarded but he'll leave a Leeds legend if we part ways in the summer.

Gaetano Berardi Contract

Post by Gandalf »

Berardi's contract expires in June 2020. Should he be offered a new one ? I noticed a few grumbles in the match thread, first half yesterday, but his stats are very impressive for this season.

Started Games: P 14 W 8 D 4 L 2 GF 25 GA 10

As sub: P 6 W 6 D 0 L 0 GF 15 GA 5

He has one red card this season (rescinded after appeal) after 14 mins against Millwall - one of the losses (the other being Arsenal). Also his yellow card yesterday, was his first of the season. Plus he has one goal.

Personally, I think he has matured into a much better footballer than he is often given credit for, and would have no worries extending his contract, no matter what league we are in. He will be 32 in August.

I agree that he has improved as a footballer while at Leeds

I'd be happy to see him stay.

A team needs somebody like Berardi. Would never be a first teamer in the PL (should we make it over the line this season), but can step in when needed. Definitely retain.
