I thought you might Haighy
But really I think I didn't listen to this version sufficiently when it was first released too appreciate how magnificent it is.
Part of the reason for that is I was mainly listening to music commuting to work while living in Canada.
The country and western music was up to date and a decent listen. But the rock was about 30/40 years out of date, a bit like the people there
I virtually never listen to pop music these days as it's compete garbage.

I'm inclined to agree, as a performance, but it I mark it down in a 'best song' vote for being a cover version.White Riot wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 7:34 am Disturbed - Sound of Silence = Head and shoulders above the rest
That leaves my pick....

Sparks would be my second fave on this list and if it was only originals it would be top.
When watching TOTP, Ron Mael used to look like a proper freak.
But we weren't to know that Jimmy Saville was the one to be concerned about.

I wouldn't be unhappy if Disturbed won it, it's a great version of the song.White Riot wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 3:23 pm Sparks would be my second fave on this list and if it was only originals it would be top.

I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

I didn't think I was being cryptic
Didn't have the energy to write the full title

It's a good cover, and there's something to be said for pumping Simon and Garfunkel through a metal effects pedal, but it's still a cover, It takes a hell of a cover for me to vote for it over an original for these exercises. Even though it's rare for one of my nominations to make it this far and I'm loathe to vote elsewhere, I think I'll go:
Zombie

I'd have to go with Vienna.
The problem with it,like Golden Brown by the Stranglers, is that it's become the clichéd 1980s synth number, overplayed and almost kitsch. When I listen to both now I try to tell myself I'm hearing them for the first time, what are they like. And they are just perfect.
