With Hector and Azk dropping out for the next couple or rounds that would drop us to 10 players 64.

Trickier to make it work, but should be a way round it. As you suggest easier if Nick and faaip were on board :duno:

All songs in poll, viewers vote for top 3
once all votes in, top 8 songs go to knockout phase as ususal.

If not many players top 4 songs go to knockout phase.

If you get more than 12 players..... top 12 songs to knockout phase.

I just think having four regulars absent dilutes the poll somewhat

There are several reasons imo.
Some don't have the enthusiasm to keep doing poll after poll. Some don't have a wide catalogue of artists they like, especially over 7 decades.
Time can be a big factor, these polls are a big commitment if you don't have lots of spare time, the poll I dropped out of for example, work took me away from my normal environment, the place I was working we weren't allowed anything with a camera so phones and iPods had to be locked away, out the house for 10 hours, I really just didn't have the time, The album poll is easier as you can put on an album and let it play, the decades poll you need to be seated on the phone , laptop or whatever to be able to listen to individual songs.
Lastly, things take a natural progression and become less interesting.

At the moment I've managed to listen to 2 of the 1999 albums, now it's the decades time again, I do think at times there needs to be a gap,so to be able to give them proper attention, easy when working at home but not so easy for those that don't with family and other commitments too.

I am out and about 64, will be for a while by the looks of it. I do enjoy the thread, but like to spend a bit of time listening to each track prior to voting and then again in between rounds to refresh my musical juices. Unfortunately I wont have the luxury of time, and prefer not to participate half-heartedly, or to be holding up the voting process. I will try to pop in and do the daily NAP as and when possible.

Got to say since working from home, for the majority of the week (although have been in the office today) it’s easier to listen through all the various thread nominations. At home you can sit down and do your work with Spotify etc.. on, which you can’t in the office/workplace environment.

I find it harder getting through the album nominations than the individual song nominations tbh.

I like the range of options on the songs thread (although rehashed nominations are just lazy imo), albeit the albums also cover a wide range of genres.

The one frustrating thing with both threads (and it must annoy you most as the shepherd trying to round everyone up) is the length of time it takes (the same usual suspects) to get their nominations and votes in

Up to you I guess 64, but happy to go with a reduced number for one month and see how it goes

Tbh I've enjoyed this section but I think it needs resting for a while firstly it takes too long for some to vote so it drags on and on ,and I know Muppet keeps saying people use the same songs but in my case I can't remember half the time which ones I've nominated or not
I've been thinking of opting out for a while now but give it a few weeks and some would have the enthusiasm to take part again so for me I think it needs to take a break

RULES
For those haven't played previously.

You nominate one song from each of the following era's
50's/60's
70's
80's
90's
2000-2009
2010-2019
2020-2029

Once every player has nominated their songs Cat matches a song against another song similar to a cup draw

We are not allowed to nominate for a song that has won a decade or a grand final. Please see the winners list at the beginning of each poll

We then vote for the songs we love or the ones you prefer. It's makes it easier for me if you vote in every match

Hopefully we'll have 16 players which would give us five rounds of matches in each decade with songs progressing or being eliminated on a cup knockout basis

Then we proceed onto the next rounds eventually reaching the decade finals

Finally the winners from the decade final go into the grand final where we vote for our favourite song of the remaining finalists

It will all become clear once the poll commences
