Next Leeds Manager Odds

Post by Cjay »

Marcelo Bielsa 4/9 on Paddy Power.
Vastly experienced coach, mad as a box of frogs, a mentor to many of the best managers in the world, doesnt speak a lick of English.

Claudio Ranieri 6/1 on BetVictor.
Vastly Experienced Italian, multiple promotions abroad, famously won the title with Leicester. Despite that his success at big clubs isnt great.

David Hopkin 9/1 on PaddyPower.
Former Leeds midfielder, back to back promotions in Scotland, not much experience.

Mick McCarthy 13/1 on PaddyPower.
Experienced manager, many promotions to his name, straight talking bloke, absolutely dire football.

Jaap Stam 14/1 on BetVictor.
Defensive great as a player, an Ajax boy, lead Reading to the playoffs, dreadful form last season and awful football.

Just below these between 16/1 and 25/1 are more interesting candidates.
Pippo Inzaghi-good job in Italy for Venezia
Quique Sanchez Flores- my choice.
Michael Laudrup- decent option
Slaven Billic- another good option.

And a host of Old fashioned hoofers.

Seems to be an increasing number of comments about Steve Bruce being in the running.......I would rather.......well anything really.

Yes its a no from me.

Couldn't get a very expensive Villa promoted and the fans arent particularly happy with the squad he built.

Another name has entered the running.

Matias Almeyda.
Very well thought of around the world as pne of the next big things.

Trophies aplenty in his short managerial career.

A disciple of Bielsa.

Lets hope Bielsa gets the job because if he doesnt the current odds make for horrifying reading. Take out Bielsa and Ranieri (1st and 2nd) then the list is as follows.

Mick McCarthy- Popular choice it seems for the sole reason he is from Yorkshire and is straight talking. Ignoring the fact he plays awful football and Ipswich fans and the club were hardly upset he went.

Steve Bruce- Similar to Mick, old fashioned English boss, had success in the past but despite having the most expensive squad in the league last season he couldnt get them up. Again, like Mick, if we took Bruce i doubt Villa fans would be upset, his style of play and the squad he has built isnt exactly rated by the Villa fans.

Simon Grayson- A weird obsession some fans have with him, did well for us once, got Preston up, did an ok job. But more recently, 3 wins in 18 at Sunderland, 3 wins in 14 at Bradford, rose tinted glasses, but being a Leeds fan and doing well once isnt a reason to go back.

Jaap Stam- One good season at Rreading, the football was so so boring though, and the form before he was sacked was awful.

David O'Leary- Scraping the barrel now, loved the team O'Leary had, that was my childhood team, since then he has done nothing, not a thing, not one success, nothing,.

Steve McClaren- Bookies being lazy now, just took the QPR job.

Nigel Pearson- He is a nutcase, like Bielsa but without the international pedigree and worldwide respect.

Sam Allardyce- I mean people criticize Bielsa for winning nothing (not true) but then they say "get Big Sam", he has done well considering most of his career but he is basically a better version of Mick. He also probably in his head thinks that he could teach Pep a thing or two.

If its a choice between a crazy, unpredictable, flawed, tactical genius and some lower league journeyman, hoof ball merchants, nutters, old hasbeens and Jaap Stam, then ill take the Genius.

I’d take Bielsa. He has influenced all the progressive coaches from Pep, Pochettino to Simeone.
Playing a 3-3-1-3 with ball playing centre backs and a super fit high pressing game?

Once he’s seen our lot.

Now there’s the problem.

So the first English Bielsa will learn when giving his first broken English interview will be "it was a game of 2 halves"
I am not convinced he is the best choice

Got a funny feeling.

Bielsa willl take the job in Mexico (where he is now) and we will end up with Mick McCarthy :o

I see Darren Ferguson has popped up at 20/1 on skybet after last night. Hopefully it won't come to that!!

If not Bielsa surely it would be Mick?

If any one of them is good enough to guide a 'non-elite' team to winning the premier league, I'd say go with him.
