Re: Kalvin Phillips - Kalvin Topic on Burnley Forum.
Kalvin's not a natural leader for me. If Llorente could stay fit he's the man, quiet, committed and he plays like a man possessed and leads from the front. Plus he can swear in Spanish at the ref.
Re: Kalvin Phillips
Bielsa didn't pick the captain, I seem to recall it was the players who voted for Cooper.weasel wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 6:51 pm A bit like cricket and I don't like the idea of simply making the best player captain. England keep doing it and keep appointing people who've never captained and have to learn at the highest level. Rather Bielsa picks the captain based on who understands the game more, knows how to get the best out of the team etc. Not knocking KP but would leave him to keep playing well and hopefully improving rather than run the risk of clouding his thoughts during the match.

Re: Kalvin Phillips
Surely Phillip's has to be Leeds United's most influential player & that's quite a feat for a young player.

"Was looking forward to seeing him in fresh.
I don’t think we saw his full range of passing today but he literally does the job of 2 players in central midfield.
Gets stuck in - a bit of a throw back to when midfielders were physical.
I’d like to see us with someone with his presence in the middle"

How right Helm is? he could see the work Phillips had to do as he was left totally isolated without Dallas or Klich alongside him.

Spoke to my neighbour when I got home and he said Leeds desperately need another central midfielder as Phillips does the job of two men. I agree!

He's a good player - strong, gets stuck in, good engine, great passer, good movement, quick. I actually think Utd could do with someone like him. If he gets a knock and is out for any length Leeds might struggle a bit - he is the linchpin in their midfield.
He's got great upper body strength- looks like a rugby league player and wouldn't look out of place in a Rhino's shirt!!!

Trust the Burnley fans to notice the only player we have who will kick them back.
I don't know how fit is fit these days, but if we are not careful with Phillips... do we risk burnout? Can you imagine Rice along side Kalvin how solid we would be. It would free up our creative players to concentrate on just that, creating on the break. I would be up for sacrificing Rodrigo and bringing back Hernandez. No i'm serious.
If you match our intensity then it comes down to individual quality. We matched Everton who have spent shed loads. Although i didn't watch the game that's a better benchmark i feel. MU were just too strong again.

Chatting with mate on the phone this morning, he mentioned the prospect of a a Phillips/Rice combination at Leeds would make us defensively strong.Leeds1000 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 5:37 pm Trust the Burnley fans to notice the only player we have who will kick them back.

Barry Glendenning of the Guardian, who makes it abundantly clear that he hates the English team and hopes they lose every game, said Phillips was the best player in the Euros.

In fact Bielsa kept the status quo, the players picked Coop before MB arrived and Bielsa continued with it.

Pretty sure he's on a long contract at West Ham and they would want 50 million upwards for him.

Re: Kalvin Phillips - Kalvin Topic on a Burnley Forum.....
I like the West Ham model playing with 2 defensive midfielders, wingers & a goalscorer up top, that's why the hammers have managed to compete with the glamorous clubs over the last two years.

They are a solid outfit WH. The lad seems level headed and loyal for this season anyway. A bit like our Kalvin.
Re: Kalvin Phillips - Kalvin Topic on a Burnley Forum.....
They turned down a bid of £90M from Chelsea earlier in the window. Yes, that Chelsea that let him go as a kid. Yes, that Chelsea, who also have Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic as defensive mids. I think they may see him as a centre half.
