OK, as most of you know I was a big fan of young Bailey, and whilst he was at the helm, we were at the top of our game, and table. So....in comes our Saviour.....Kiko! Now, I'm not for one moment suggesting that Kiko has cost us, but, what if our defenders had in mind when young Bailey was in goal that they had to protect our young rookie and play out of their skins, to defend him. Then, in comes the great ex Real Madrid goalie..... :dun:.....did our defence think that they didn't need to protect our new goalie as much? Did our defence relax a bit too much?

Sometimes you can defend better as you try to protect your keeper. With BPF being weak at long shots you would certainly be less likely to invite the striker to shoot from distance so would be quicker to close him down. The type of goals we have been conceding though have been through poor defending as a whole team, especially the Wigan goals where we allowed a team with a man less to somehow hit us on the break. I don't think it would have made any difference as to who was in net.

Kiko has been a great signing. Our problem all season has been at the other end.

I think signing Kiko has helped tighten things up from set pieces, especially corners where we were very vulnerable in the first half of the season. That said I think he conceded a few I thought he could have at least got his hand to ( near post against Wigan for their first goal for example) And I hate it it when he comes rushing out of the penalty area.

Overall though I think it has been the fact that teams have been unwilling to play anything but 10 man behind the ball that has frustrated us.

So far.

Kiko has been an improvement. We just don't do enough in the final third. I think our squad has been too thin in the run-in - that's the reason for the drop in form.

No problems in the GK dept, our problem since September has been at the other end. ...and still is.

Think you have a point Swannie.

The defence protected BPF superbly most of the time imo.

I think a lot of that was down to a lack of faith especially Jansson and Cooper had in him, imo he made them nervous especially with his indecision.

One thing Kiko isnt is indecisive, he makes his mind up and thats it, it has lead to a few heart stoppers but by and large he has been spot on.

Imo the defence being overly confident in Kiko has lead to more mistakes.

Phillips and Cooper vs Sheffield United.

Pontus being miles out of position vs Wigan.

Defenders being attracted to the ball to easily rather then staying with the runner.

I think because Kiko is so good at coming out they feel a ball in behind is less of a worry.

But with Kiko we do concede fewer goals per game, so clearly there is an improvement somewhere, probably Kiko.
