The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Fri 23rd Aug) - Leeds defence tighter than Fort Knox

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Friday 23rd August, and here are the Leeds Utd headlines

Hernandez witch hunt

'Woeful', 'shocking' and 'looking his age now' were only a couple of comments made on social media by Leeds fans about Pablo Hernandez's performance on Wednesday night against Brentford.

It would be true to say the 34 yo had a poor game midweek, but to be torn to bits like this on social media surely is incomprehensible?

Should Bielsa be using our talisman more sparingly? Can Hernandez still play two games in a week? Would anyone like to see his contract extended for another season?

Leeds partnership with 'Wish'

Leeds have become the first football team to form a partnership with leading e-commerce 'Wish'.

Following the successful sponsorship of the LA Lakers, the San Francisco company were looking to add another recognisable company to their brands, and Leeds fit that bill.

The company's branding will have a heavy presence at Elland Road this term. According to Phil Hay, a six figure sum has been agreed between the two companies to sponsor Bielsa's blue bucket!!!

Paul Bell, Executive Director at Leeds United, said: “The sponsorship market is more competitive than ever before and we are delighted that Wish have chosen Leeds United as their first club association within football."

Sam Jones, Managing Director of Wish, added: "We believe aligning to iconic sport teams is a great way to build brand equity. This is a deliberate component of our global marketing strategy – we want to reach consumers during their favourite moments of a regular week, in this case, watching Leeds United.

“Since sponsoring the LA Lakers jersey in the US, we have looked at dozens of football clubs in Europe and Leeds United appealed to us for so many reasons. Leeds is the third biggest and fastest growing city in the UK.

Leeds defence tighter than Fort Knox

Over the course of the four Championship games so far, Leeds opposition have managed a combined total of six completed passes into Leeds United's box from open play.

Morning all

I love Pablo to bits he’s our magician but he had a bad day at the office, so what we all have done that before but how many good days has he had since joining us in 2016 far more than bad I’d say so the heavy criticism is bang out of order

That said I do feel he shouldn’t be playing so many games so two in a couple of days is too much for him, rest him this weekend, don’t play him in the Cow & Bow Cup so he’s fresh for our game against the Swans which is currently a table topper and we’ll need him firing for that one.

Plus with the amount of talent we have it gives someone else a chance to step up

Absolutely ridiculous to berate Pablo after one below par game, he has proven many many times what an asset he is to our team so the idiots should lay off him. I do agree that as with any finite resource he should be used a little more sparingly but this will become more important as the winter kicks in.

I reckon, and bear with me for a bit it's worth hearing, regarding the diagrams under the title "How Leeds Are Keeping...", and the far left diagram, that arrow coming away from the word Bristol City to the right....I think....you could probably pick that one up without disturbing the rest of the pile

Pablo has shown that he still has the magic this season, so we should look after him and cut him some slack.

I hate everything to do with sponsorship. I despise the whole language and notion of being a global brand. Capitalism has ruined football, as it has ruined most other aspects of life on this planet. I used to enjoy the unique eccentricity of Bielsa on his bucket, but that too has now been spoiled.

Good Morning Everyone,

Really silly about Pablo. He is our talisman. Yes he will need rotating as recovery times between training / games etc will be longer due to his advancing years.
Were those social media complainers sitting on their hands when Pablo conjured up his magic against Bristol and Forest? Also going forward once MB sees how we cope without Pablo will go a long way towards how much he is used this season. As we all know last season we coped badly.

I has to Google Wish to find out who they were. A 6 figure sum is chump change to sell the soul of the sacred bucket.
Sponsorship is just  at times. I remember the very first IPL when 6s were sponsored by some corporate giant, DLF . On one occasion Ricky Ponting slog sweeped one over the boundary and the commentator with tongue in cheek exclaimed " He has DLFed it into the stands"

If you renamed that chart How Leedsare keeping opponents away from Casilla..... .... I hear Weasel loosening his fingers before firing back a stinging retort as I type.....
Seriously it pays testament to both our oppositions fear of allowing us room and how well KP and AF are working with our defence. But three clean sheets on the bounce hasn't happened in a while and is to be enjoyed.

There's a section of our fanbase, particularly on social media, who are f**king arseholes.

I'm with Sara on this, hate the branding and commercialisation of football. But I also recognise that it is the shape of things these days, and will only get worse if we get promoted.
