Leeds Utd v Stoke City (Carabao Cup) Match Thread - 17 minutes highlights

Post by Ellandback1 »

Stoke City v Leeds Utd

Tuesday 27th August 2019 7.45pm | Elland Road

Three days after the Bet365 massacre, the Potters have come back for more! On Saturday goals after the break from Ezgjan Alioski and Patrick Bamford added to Stuart Dallas' first-half strike to give Leeds their fourth win from five games and leave the Potters bottom of the second tier, with a solitary point.nThe pressure is off Leeds who concentrate on the league, yet a big scalp from the Premiership potentially lays in wait for the winners in round three of the Carabao Cup.

Bielsa has made plenty of changes from the weekends team with Douglas, Davis, Shackleton, McCalmont, Clarke, Bogusz, Costa and Nketiah all coming into the starting line-up. Nketiah will be looking to add to his two goals, and push for a starting position at Elland Road on Saturday against fellow promotion prospects Swansea City.

Stoke boss Nathan Jones is between a rock and a hard place, surely, he needs to concentrate about digging his team from the basement of the Championship, though I'm sure another loss may spell the end of his tenure in the Black Country.

Leeds Starting XI:
Casilla, Douglas, Berardi, Davis, Shackleton, Phillips, McCalmont, Clarke, Bogusz, Costa, Nketiah

Subs: Miazek, White, Gotts, Forshaw, Alioski, Harrison, Bamford

It goes without saying that Bielsa with make 6-7 changes but what will Stoke do?
They made 6 changes yesterday and it did them no good what so ever so will they bring back players such as Ince and Allen who were dropped?
For us, it gives much needed game time for those warming the bench at the moment.
It would nice to see Ryan Edmondson get at least a place on the bench.

I still want to win this...IIRC we lost to Preston in this round about this time of the season last year and then took 6 points from the next 5 league games after a stunning start...

Bielsa said after the game yesterday that he would put out a strong team, I have no doubt it will be a competitive XI

Just took a 25-1 Leeds to win 4-0

Wondering if Stoke go full strength to just try and bag a win....

Even so MB suggested we will see a similar lineup that started against Salford.

Would love Costa to open his account with us and for Bogusz to get some game time.

Feel nice and relaxed about this one. We ought to win whoever Bielsa puts out, but it feels like the pressure's off, having just beaten them comprehensively in the league. Good opportunity for game time, as others have said.

Dallas been a doubt for last 2 games, so maybe worth giving him a rest, Cooper too even if fit.

.......................Meslier

Shackleton...Berardi....White........Davis.

.........................Phillips...........

Costa........Klich........McCalmont.....Alio

........................Nketiah

Clarke didn't look up to speed last round, otherwise I'd move Costa to left and put Clarke on right

I'd play Kiko. Still have the sense that adjusting to his style is work in progress, and that he will continue to progress with more game time. It's not like he has much to do and needs resting.

I'd agree but think we need to see the new lad in action, see how he copes just incase he's called upon through injury or suspension.

It's just priorities, and I'd prioritise the first team, but Bielsa will know which will benefit the squad most overall. The U23s have all stepped up when needed because of the coaching they receive.

I would start with Kiko and then give the young lad the second half. But I doubt Bielsa will do that

Bielsa always leaves some experienced players in the team for cup games... what do you think of this lineup.
