Indoor Bowls 2019/20

Post by 1964white »

Nine of us involved in a Bowls Cup Final as Middleton take on Langtoft on a neutral green at Driffield at 2pm this afternoon. Tough game as Langtoft always beat us at their place & ended their season in the top three of the table whereas I believe we are more or less relegated with one league match to play :(

Wish us luck folks

I wish you and your team the best of luck Leon - I admire your passion for bowls and I sincerely hope you avoid relegation. I can't imagine how painful that would be.

When I lived over there I played, casually, a few times and always felt it was a very competitive but yet relaxing sport. If we ever move back (which is on the cards btw) I intend to seek out the sport, somewhere in Yorkshire, West or South.

Not at all Hector. That was the Indoor season where my partners & I comfortably won the Evening & Aussie Pairs leagues

Not a great season for Middleton with the Outdoor stuff this summer.

We play in four leagues :

District Pairs - relegated
Wolds League - mid-table
Independent League - bottom two + this afternoon's cup final
Veterans League C - 3rd, just missed out on promotion after four consecutive titles in leagues D, E, F & G

I only play in the latter two, the Independent & the Veterans leagues.

Unfortunately we've lost a couple of of best players in several matches due to injury/ill health & other commitments which hasn't helped our cause.

I personally enjoy playing as a No.2, unfortunately I'm having to skip on one of the three rinks as we are a skipper down, not too concerned as my record skipping is decent so I only hope we can all pull together & play well.

I'd make Langtoft favourites to win but you never know in this silly game :-D

Thanks Rich, I was concerned about that as soon as we reached the final

Our captain said you're not going to Barnsley if the match clashes with the Final

I replied it will be a tough call

Phil said will it fook

Well as expected we lost our match 55-47 over the three rinks :(

My team won our rink picking up three shots on the last end to win 20-19 coming back after we had led for the majority of the match

John A our team captain (use to go under the name of On The Hoof on our horse racing thread) was so unlucky on the last three ends losing 16-15, they really should have won their match comfortably as Langtoft were gifted points rather than gained them off their own backs at the end, silly game when the gods are not smiling on you!

Our other club captain was beaten comfortably 20-12, they were never in the game so it was always going to be an uphill struggle for John & I on our respective rinks to reduce the deficit against a very strong outfit

Nevermind we didn't disgrace ourselves on the day, gave our all which unfortunately wasn't quite enough.

Afterwards the presentations took place & we picked up our silver cups & lined up for the local press in a photograph session

Also enjoyed a homemade scone with jam & cream plus a nice cuppa too :-D

A sad day as one of my regular bowls partners John G played his last game for the club yesterday as he is moving back to West Yorkshire. I will miss him although we are constantly in touch talking/texting Liverpool/Leeds/Footy & bowls. We are losing a very good bowler & someone who done so much for our club over the last ten years, he is responsible for lifting Middlleton bowls out of the doldrums into a flourishing club. At least we he went out with a victory :)

I will miss my old mate

Indoor Bowls Season began yesterday

Two matches in a day for this old sod

Great start to the season

Regional Triples League - won very easily 26-7
Evening Pairs League - Hoof & I going for our tenth title (I think), another comfortable victory 23-10

Another match this afternoon with dear old Don & I defending last season's league success

Right then after beating last season's Triples champions this afternoon, drove home in horrible weather, had my tea & a hour at home. Now for the Evening Pairs league champions looking to maintain our unbeaten run as we go into our 9th match this season. 64' has plenty of stamina although I'll be out on my feet by supper time
