Birmingham City

Post by 1964white »

Birmingham City have been fined £42,500 after a Blues fan attacked Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish last season.

Statement from the Blues O/S

AN INDEPENDENT REGULATORY COMMISSION HAS FINED BLUES £42,500 AND WARNED THE CLUB AS TO THEIR FUTURE CONDUCT.
The Club submitted it used all due diligence but was found to have failed to ensure that its spectator[s], and all persons purporting to be its supporters or followers, conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from improper and/or violent behaviour and/or refrained from encroaching onto the pitch area during the EFL Championship fixture against Aston Villa on 10 March 2019.

These incidents are difficult for any club who endure these circumstances

We've had occasions when fans have invaded the pitch, the yob/keeper incident at Hillsborough then there was the nasty scenes v Ipswich at ER a few seasons ago

Are the Brummies being punished for not having adequate/efficient stewarding or did the fan who committed the offence have previous history of football violence at Birmingham ?

It is hard to know what exactly the EFL expect clubs to be doing, but in the end they will always sanction clubs when this type of incident happens. If they didnt people would be screaming blue murder.

No doubt Leeds and Barnsley will be digging deep after Sunday as well.

No matter how high you build the fences there will always be numpties at grounds who want to act like this fella. Football seems to bring it out in some people.

I wonder if Arsenal will be penalised for a similar incident last season.

Look up Palace V Villa this season on YouTube, plenty of Villa scrapping with the police and stewards. Didn't even know about it until a Palace season ticket holder at work told me about it today. Unfortunately it goes on everywhere.

It seems to be a tribal thing with football fans

It is, but I wonder how many fans are just conditioned to misbehave on match day.
Football seems to do something to the brain..

I bet those Barnsley and Leeds fans who kicked off against each other were on opposing sides at a Rugby League game it would be different.
