The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 3rd December) - Memories of 1972 as Leeds head to Emirates for FA Cup encounter

Post by Ellandback1 » Tue Dec 03, 2019 8:24 am

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 3rd December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Last minute agony sees the Baggies leapfrog Leeds

West Bromwich Albion leapfrogged Leeds at the top of the table courtesy of a dubious penalty decision in the 90th minute. Preston North End goalkeeper Declan Rudd was deemed to have upended Kyle Edwards as it seemed the Baggies hitman was running out of space to take a shot. Referee Oliver Langford ignored the Preston protests and pointed to the spot. The rest as they say is history.

Do you think this was a penalty? If not, should Edwards receive a ban for cheating?

£15m price tag on Gayle rules him out on a return to the Championship

Newcastle Utd have slapped a 15m price tag on Dwight Gayle. Toon boss Steve Bruce wants the 29yo to stay at St James Park but is aware that with only four appearances under his belt, the Walthamstow born striker needs first team action.

With a host of clubs keen to secure Gayle's signature in January how likely is it that a Championship club are able to stump up 15m and avoid Financial Fair Play irregularities? Would Leeds actually be keen on Gayle? With only four appearances under his belt, would he be fit enough to play Bielsaball?

Leeds travel to the Emirates in the FA Cup

The draw for the third round of the FA Cup has seen Leeds being drawn against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on the 3rd January, though in all likelihood the fixture is likely to be changed as Sky will no doubt want to showcase the game.

Stevens signs contract extension

Jordan Stevens has signed a contract extension at Thorp Arch that will keep the 19yo at Elland Road until the Summer of 2022. The 19-year-old has agreed fresh terms, keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2022.

Stevens joined from Forest Green Rovers in 2018, and has been a regular for the Under 23's with seven appearances and two goals so far this term. He missed out on six weeks of action, having been suspended for betting!

Morning EB et all

Definitely 110% not a pen
Yes he should be but the Corrupt EFL won’t even consider it, far too busy seeing how they can ban Kiko

Hopefully that price means we won’t go for him, can’t stand the bloke and he doesn’t like us so would be only coming for the money, plus he’s hardly played this season, won’t be match fit and Bielsa won’t play him until he is so will play for the U23’s for a couple of games get injured then be out for the rest of the season

Wish the Arsenal game was this week as we’d beat them, currently a team full of quality individuals and some very poor players but definitely not a team

Jordan stupid boy for the betting thing but didn’t deserve such a ban so glad the club has extended his contract hopefully he can put it all behind him and push on from here

Morning All,

West Brom got away with one last night.
If the championship had VAR the penalty decision would have been rightly overturned.
They were poor last night but we weren't great at Preston either but the difference was they got the three points.

We won't be signing Gayle in January or anyone else for that matter so the discussion is moot.
Would he be a useful addition to the squad? Yes definitely.

The Arsenal game in the FA Cup is a great draw for us and depending on who they put out on the day, we have a chance if only a small one.
It will definitely be televised but on BBC or BT not Sky.

I hope Jordan Stevens has learned his lesson from 'Betgate and gets his head down and continues to push for a first team place now.
The six week ban was too severe for someone so young in my opinion especially when the majority of clubs are sponsored by betting companies.
A fine and some re-education regarding the rules around betting would have been enough for a first offence with a warning that a second offence would be a more severe punishment.

Chilli

I seem to remember that Gayle did a dive in the box when he played for WBA and retrospectively he got a suspension. If there is any justice then the EFL needs to look at at penalty again and sanction Edwards
for his ballet performance.

West Brom certainly got away with one last night and as Rab says above, Gayle got a ban for the same thing last year, so Edwards could get the same, which will probably be a small price to pay for the extra 2 points it earned them.

I wouldn't want Gayle there is a unity in the camp which doesn't need an ego coming in and upsetting that, from reports over the summer, he sems very money motivated. If we had that kind of money then I'd be looking at 2/3 players that would improve the team not destroy it.

Arsenal is a great chance for the players to sample what it's like to play in the premier league and hopefully will give them even more hunger to get there.

Stevens looks a very good player and the club seemed to handle his problem brilliantly.

Morning Folks.

Keeper rushing out made it easy for the striker to fall over him. Mistake by ref but can’t see any retrospective taking place.

We won’t sign a name striker. Who would come to sit on the bench? Eddie must stay.

Arsenal. Brilliant draw for us. Bielsaball on the Beeb.,,

Stevens. Lad looks like one for the future, it would nice to see him break through this season.

Attended loads of Leeds v Arsenal matches over the last 56 years, missed the ones on the 80's, looking forward to this cup-tie in January
