However, I was thirteen when it came out, and it had a huge influence on me at the time. The brick part 2 solo is what inspired me to play electric guitar, and the themes of alienation and defiance set the tone for my teens like nothing else.
Yeah, that solo is a masterclass in understated accomplishment. An epic 'humble-brag' if you will. Everything is impeccably timed and accented without going over the top.
I was only nine when it was released, and first saw the record at my friend's house where his teenage sister had it. I remember the jacket looked scary and awful to me. But I picked it up myself a few years later and yes, the themes certainly stoked my already burgeoning adolescent appetite to fight the powers that be.

I spent years trying to work out how to get that clean sustain on a strat, only to eventually discover it was studio compression and he played it on a Les Paul!
If I go insane will you still let me join in with the game?

Talking Heads 'Fear Of Music'
Joni Michell 'Mingus'
Gang Of Four 'Entertainment'
Ry Cooder 'Bop Till You Drop'
Undertones 'Undertones'
Wire '154'
The Fall 'Live at the Witch Trials'
Van Morrison 'Into The Music'
Tough call, however I have to nominate Joni's beautiful album 'Mingus', yes it is a acquired taste that requires some listening. Even though it's a change of direction to Mitchell's earlier works I reckon it's up there with 'Blue' 'Court & Spark' & 'Ladies Of The Canyon'
I know 'Mingus' won't achieve many votes but I love this album.
Lets face it there is only one winner in this poll by a street I suspect, hope my nomination avoids the wooden spoon my four points maybe just enough

5pts - The Clash
4pts - The Specials
3pts - Elvis Costello and the Attractions
2pts - Madness
1pt - ELO
That's more like it I'll have the more varied five though
'I am quite clear in my mind that one has to feel sincere love for those he leads, and if he doesn't feel it naturally, then he must learn how to feel it' Marcelo Bielsa
'Would he kill his granny to win a match?' Bobby Collins
Cant believe I'd left The Clash out from top 5.
Error really ! Really & deservedly need to be in there ...if I would or may be able I'd at least swap them for no.5 ...instead of ( Madness ).
