Moody Blues 'On the Threshold of a Dream'

I have to say, I'm surprised Captain Beefheart, Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills & Nash missed the first round. If I think of 1969 I think of them, the Byrds, the Manson Family and Sharon Tate, Neil Young, the Doors, Altamont, that whole west coast USA hippy counter culture that seemed to implode in a welter of darkness that year.

I'm surprised too Mountain, although there were so many great albums during the 60's & 70's.Mountain wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 1:00 pm I have to say, I'm surprised Captain Beefheart, Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills & Nash missed the first round. I was considering all those artists plus The Band, CCR, Temptations, Sly & the Family Stone, Isaac Hayes, CCR, Santana, Chicago, Dusty Springfield, JethroTull, Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd & more for my nomination.
Surprised you are not nominating.
'Soft Parade' still up for grabs.

Be interesting to see how many votes Trout Mask gets, I think even his accessible work like Unconditionally Guaranteed would struggle in these. Best place to start would probably be Clear Spot or Shiny Beast for the beginner

Soft Parade maybe my least favourite Doors album ... still good but not in Waiting for the Sun or the debut's class.

Spotlight Kid even Moonbeams which is fairly commercial but less so than UC and opens with the wonderful Party Of Special Things To Do
Lick My Decals Off is probably my favourite atm, the follow up to Trout Mask.

Because I'm FAR too young to remember bands from the 60s!
I'm the youngest of 7 children so I grew up listening to the brothers playing rock, the Stones, the Who, Led Zep, or the sisters listening to soft rock and folk, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Bob Dylan. So when I got into my own music I went off on a different route completely, electronic, and then house and ambient. So my tastes really starts in the 70s, with Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Gary Numan etc

Ah, that explains it Mountain, the late 70's electronic stuff influenced your tastes for the future decadesMountain wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 6:21 pm Because I'm FAR too young to remember bands from the 60s!

More like hearing Rumours and Hotel California every single day for years of my childhood put me off all the artists my siblings liked. I only recently "rediscovered" Fleetwood Mac...but I'm still allergic to the Eagles. And so many other groups from the 60s and 70s.
