The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 7th April) Break in season could be blessing in disguise for Augustin

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 7th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Augustin responding well to treatment

Phil Hay has revealed that both Jean Kevin Augustin and Adam Forshaw (remember him?) have both been attending Thorp Arch despite the squad self isolating.

The former Chief Football writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that both players, under the guidance of Rob Price (Head of Medicine and Performance) were responding well to treatment following their respective injuries.

Augustin in particular, has disappointed since his £65,000 a week loan was sealed late in January. He managed just 49 minutes of game time before being sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The 22yo French International is being put his paces with a series of drills aimed at improving his sprint mechanics.

The three month break caused by the coronavirus could not have come at a better time for Augustin who should be as match fit as the rest of the squad when the season hopefully recommences in June.

Forshaw on course for August return

Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw has been speaking about the progress he is making following his hip operation at the World renowned Steadman Clinic in Colorado seven weeks ago.
“The specialist in Colorado was recommended,”

“Rob Price (head of medicine and performance) had been out with a player before as well, when he was at Liverpool.

“I’m seven weeks since the operation now which was a success and everything is going well.

“I feel good, I’m on track so far and the plan was always to be ready for the start of next season.

“The support everyone in the medical team has given me has been brilliant, they’ve stuck by me in what has been a terrible season for me in terms of injuries, they really have all been great.

“Obviously it is their job and protocol, but they genuinely do care and want the best for me, they’ve helped me so much and hopefully I can get back as soon as possible.

“There’s been a good atmosphere at Thorp Arch throughout the season and it has been nice for me to still be a part of it, having breakfast with the lads, being in the gym and treatment room with them and going to as many games as possible too.”

“I’m due to be off the crutches shortly and then it will be a case of building strength up.

“I’m managing to get in the pool at the training ground as it comes under medical at the moment, so I can travel to work for that reason.

“I’ve got a gym at the house where I’m doing a lot as well.

“It’s a massive relief for me and a weight off my shoulders, I feel a lot more relaxed about everything now.
“I’m looking forward to pushing on from here and enjoying my football again.”

Liverpool Title inadvertently good news for Leeds

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has admitted it's incredibly unlikely the Reds wouldn't be handed the Premiership title regardless of whether the 2019/20 season is finished or not.

The Reds are runaway leaders in the top flight, 25 points ahead of second place Manchester City, with nine games remaining.
"I can't see a way Liverpool could be left without a title," he said.

"If the Premier League resumes play, Liverpool will almost certainly win the title. Theoretically, it's not all over, but practically Liverpool are on the verge of it.

"If by any chance the play will not resume, we still have to find a way to declare final results, to declare champions.

"And again I cannot see, I cannot imagine a scenario, in which the champions would not be Liverpool."
Could this inadvertently be good news for Leeds?

The Whites currently occupy the top pirch in the Championship, and are 7 points clear of third place Fulham (and a GD of 12).

Although Liverpool are 18 points better off than the Whites, surely a precedent would have been set?

Morning all.

I thought JKA would be fit by now, flaming nora, he is turning into a right money sink..

What UeFA day about English football has become as relevant as what the EU will say about UK politics and business. The Football League will make the best decision for them.

What I dont get is all the rush to start next season. Start it late.

Its all the bloodying same. Players get overpaid. Clubs charge ripoff prices to cover them, the fans get scewed by every business linked to the sport, be it hotels, airlines, taxi drivers, food outlet and Sky snd BT tv rake in vast profits which keep the whole merry go round turning.

"Football is about the people and the players,” he said. “Then there are those who will mingle in the middle: the coaches, executives and journalists. That last group represents the worst part about football" Marcelo Bielsa

I still think Augustin will only play a bit part if & when the season resumes

I'd be very surprised if Forshaw is selected due to lack of his fitness levels

64, I hope you're wrong.

A fit Augustin will be worth his weight in gold.

Between Bielsa and Price, he should make a huge impact in two months time.

His skill is great, but so is his execution!

Neil Warnock recently told the Mail on Sunday that the 2019/20 season should be played to a finish when it is deemed safe to do so, stating that he doesn’t think that “the authorities realise how much fans in general invest in their clubs.”

"I went down to Truro to watch one of their games a couple of months ago,’ Warnock told the Mail on Sunday.

"This decision seems so unfair.

"I wonder if the people who took it realise how much travelling the team and the fans have to do from a place like Truro.

"I wonder if they understand how much a promotion like that would have meant to them and how much work they have put in to get into that position.

"Why make a decision like that now? Whenever this pandemic is over and people feel that it is right that we can go and watch football again, then let’s finish the season then.

"That applies to the Premier League, too. It is unnecessary to make decisions now.

"I don’t think the authorities realise how much fans in general invest in their clubs.

"There is so much at stake for clubs throughout the leagues.

"That applies to Truro City and it applies to Leeds and West Brom and Plymouth and Exeter and Swindon and Rotherham and Oxford United and Portsmouth.

"Those are just the clubs at the top. Surely, you just play it to a finish, whenever that may be, even if it’s the end of the year."
