The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 25th May) Leeds return to Thorp Arch

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Monday 25th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Leeds players return to training at Thorp Arch

Over ten weeks since their last competitive game, Leeds Utd have been given the green light to return to training at Thorp Arch. Whilst we await to hear on a date for the season to recommence, and whether home or neutral venues will be designated, it is surely good news for Leeds fans.

I'm sure we all read yesterday that Hull City have two unnamed casualties of the deadly virus on their books. Although the duo have no ill effects, both will have to self isolate for seven days! Is seven days enough?

What are the chances that one of more players from the Championship catch the virus between now and the restart of the season? Now that training has recommenced, the entire squad will not be able to train for a week! What kind of advantage would that give to the opposition?

Be careful what you wish for

Although it's fantastic news that Leeds have resumed training, and a return to action is only weeks away; there is the little matter of 27 points to be played for! A visit to the Cardiff City Stadium has rarely been kind to us, and should Fulham sneak a win at Elland Road the next game, our advantage will be more or less lost. Alarmingly, since Leeds returned to the Championship in the 09/10 season, they have averaged 9.2 points from the final nine games, during which they have dropped two places. Even last season under Bielsa, we only averaged 10 points!

10/11 season - 11 points and drop 2 places
11/12 season - 7 points and drop 4 places
12/13 season - 9 points and drop 3 places
13/14 season - 10 points and drop 2 places
14/15 season - 8 points and drop 2 places
15/16 season - 9 points and drop 1 place
16/17 season - 9 points and drop 3 places
17/18 season - 10 points and level
18/19 season - 10 points and drop 1 place

Buzzing this morning - just waiting for my mate Dominic to pick me up and then we're driving down to Thorp Arch to have a kick about with the lads.

The 7 day isolation period doesn't simply mean they will then be allowed to resume whatever their role is. It will be a minimum of 7 days and then further testing before they are allowed back.

All players will be tested a couple of times per week and will also have to have temperature taken every session and complete a medical questionaire so in theory they should be able to detect if a player has caught the virus and isolate them before they enter the contagious phase of the illness.

It is a concern over our end of season finishes. Hopefully having the additional rest will certainly have helped any chance of burnout. In the Monk season we definitely ran out of gas or perhaps also ran out of luck as we had won a lot of games prior to the last 9 matches where Rob Green, our keeper, had been man of the match and Chris Wood had got the winner for us. At some point the wonder saves were always going to be opposition goals instead and the 1 chance taken by Chris Wood for a goal would be a miss instead.

Last season we were a bit up and down over the last few matches. The big turning points were 1) the undeserved loss to Sheff Utd - Tyler Roberts hitting the post amongst many chances we missed and then the Cooper error and mishit shot that resulted in Sheff Utd's goal and 2) the Wigan match where we were 1-0 up and had a man advantage yet lost. We played well v Villa and Derby and rather than tiredness/burnout it was more a case of everything that could go wrong did. I get the feeling that the players are really raring at the chance to prove people wrong.

Bielsa should have started with Jansson in the play off second leg v Derby.

About time things started moving again in the Premier League and EFL.
By this time next week, the Bundesliga will have completed four fixtures.
The Germans will be well on their way to completing their 2019-2020 season by the time the English leagues finally get something organised.

Welcome to MOT Westgate

The Germans have handled the pandemic much more efficiently than our government :( nothing new there they always deal with a crisis better than we do.

Our form over the last 10 games is so so bad.

Hopefully though the break will have done us good, empty stadiums so no pressure from the stands.

Its a bit like the start of the season again and we seem to do well then.

Fingers and toes crossed.

Would much rather win or even lose promotion on the pitch then be given promotion in the courts or ppg.

Well we do with a full stadium or vociferous travelling support and no fear of disease. No precedence for BCD football. It'll be a leveller

My biggest fear is how the lads react to playing BCD. No fans there to generate the normal electric atmosphere which can give players that extra bit of pace or that spring in their step. If they adapt to it then we should go up without too many hiccups.
