The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wed 27th May) - Artificial crowd noise at Elland Road?

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 27th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

EFL discuss implementing artificial crowd noise

The EFL is expected to discuss implementing artificial crowd noise to make up for empty stadiums. It was used last weekend during Leipzig’s 5-0 demolition of Schalke. Fellow Bundesliga outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach utilised 12,000 cardboard cut-outs of their fans to add atmosphere to their ground. Bristol City Manager Lee Johnson is not discounting the idea...

Make no mistake, we want to play in front of fans but if we can’t play in front of fans, I think the crowd noise is interesting. I’ve seen it in South Korea and it looked like it worked quite well, if the timing was good. Maybe that should be a viewers’ choice? We have discussed the crowd noise and we’re ready to go if we decide to do that but it’s got to be something that is broader than just Bristol City. The league has to decide what they want to do with that. I’m pretty sure that it will be discussed by the EFL.

If artificial noise was added, which Leeds chants should be most prominent? Would you pay £10 to have a cardboard cut out of yourself in the stadium during games?

Phillips opens up on how Bielsa changed his game

During a recent interview, Leeds star Kalvin Phillips was asked how Bielsa had changed his game. The 24 year old replied...

I think the season before I had scored seven goals and got three or four assists and I think I did reasonably well for a midfielder. When he came in, he said he was going to play me as a centre defensive mid, and I was like 'hang on a minute, I've scored one of the most goals in the team, I'm the midfielder with the most goals.' But obviously I was never going to say no. He looks like a manager you don't really want to upset and I just went with it.

He was telling me how he wanted me to play and what he wanted me to do, first of all he wanted me to lose weight, he wanted me to learn how to play centre-back as well as playing centre defensive mid. I was more of an attacking midfielder. I could play striker or I could play attacking midfielder - when I was young - Sunday league. Then when I got into the Academy I changed to like a box to box midfielder and then I remember one season with Paul Heckingbottom I kind of played everywhere.

I played four, eight and then I played ten so I knew if I got the right coaching and I put in the right work that I could probably play anywhere in midfield. But I think with the manager coming in and telling me that he thinks I am going to be a good player in that position then I was never going to say no. It's me just believing in him knowing that he's coached such big players and been in charge of such big teams that have done so well. I just agreed to it and obviously it has worked out better for me.

Who would you sell?

Assuming Leeds are promoted during the Summer, if you were the Leeds Supremo and wanted to free up some money to bring new players in, which of the following transfer would you sanction?

Casilla Free
Ayling 3m
Douglas 250k
Cooper 2.5m
Alioski 2m
Dallas 3m
Davis 500k
Forshaw 4m
Costa 12m
Hernandez 1m
Phillips 55m
Klich 5m
Shackleton 1.5m
Bamford 5m
Roberts 2.5m

I'd sell Bamford, Casilla, Ayling and Cooper.

55m for Phillips would be tempting. You could buy White and sill have 25m left.

Both Dallas and Alioski can cover other positions and Ithik Douglas has a lot more to give.

Casilla- a lot of wages for an average keeper.
Douglas - Just not good enough imo.
Forshaw - Wouldn't get that for him, not with his injury record. That's why I'd sell.
Costa - Take £12m
Bamford - Won't cut it in the Premier

Good morning Matt

What has Ayling done wrong? a 100% player & he's definitely worth more than a paltry £3m

So you'd get shot of four of the main players of our first XI & retain five players that hardly played  Douglas is slow like Ian Harte, would get done for pace in the premiership

Casilla
Douglas
Forshaw
Costa
Bamford

Still unconvinced that Cooper & Alioski could hack it in the prem but would keep them as squad players initally. Too soon to call whether Shacks or Davis (I rate both) will be good enough

To be fair though.
Bamford and Casilla, you've not been a great admirer of either, up and down with your reviews.
Ayling, only the last 6 months you've really warmed to him.
Cooper, you've been one of his biggest critics on here, liability and league 1 player is his level, you've said on many an occasion.

Hang on a minute mate, I wasn't Ayling's biggest fan initially but I warmed to him during the Monk era when we use to sing about our back-four.......Ayling, Pontus, Bartley & Berardi

I recall raving about Luke's performance in our last game v QPR at ER a couple of seasons ago, he never stop running for the whole 90 minutes after returning from a six months serious injury as his teammates were flagging around him thinking about their holidays

Yes Casilla has been erratic & his racist incident doesn't lie easy with me

Bamford's workrate is great but he's not a natural goalscorer imo!

Cooper has had his best two seasons under Bielsa although I'm unconvinced he can hack it in the prem

You'll see in my post above I'd get rid of Casilla, Douglas, Forshaw, Costa & Bamford

Only sell a player who has been a regular first choice player if you replace him with someone better.
Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

This is after Monks era from you mate.

You don't need to convince me Cjay, I've been insisting for months Ayling has been poor

Even in his pomp last season he got caught out of position several times costing us goals

This season you may as well put Luke down as a missing person

1 game against QPR isn't a summer, it's just a Swallow.

I love ayling, but with with Couto on his way for a season long loan, unless Ayling can play centre back or midfield we don't need him

Surely that's short sighted though Matt, get rid of a player, who's establishing himself very well now, for a kid, we're going to improve for Man City's purpose not ours, I really don't want another Ben White scenario, as in improving a players game no end, without a pre agreement to buy and give them money in the process to improve their player, it's sheer madness.

Ayling going forward is great. Aylings engine is fantastic. His contribution is excellent.

Unfortunately he gets caught out on pace in the Championship. He's 29 shortly. His pace is only going to get worse

We have to buy Costa, so whether you like it or not, he isn't going anywhere. I think Marcelo will trust in the group mostly. The only ones I can see going are Casilla and Douglas. All the loanees we will try to buy (including White). If we don't get Ben, then we will need a Centre Half (Robin Koch ?) and a goalkeeper. Hopefully we won't have to sell to buy next season. Also we need to see how Augustin has come on. If he doesn't live up to expectations, then a new striker will also be needed.

Casilla Free Sell, free up some wages & buy Meslier.
Ayling 3m 50/50 on this, £3m would be good but i'm sure he has something to offer even at Prem level, maybe sell in Jan if he's struggling!
Douglas 250k Sell but for more than that surely (Don't call me Shirley!)
Cooper 2.5m Keep as hopefully backup CB
Alioski 2m Keep as i'm sure he gets things going behind the scenes and that's priceless, plus he can play in lots of positions.
Dallas 3m Keep, see Ayling.
Davis 500k Keep, Bielsa likes him and that's good enough for me.
Forshaw 4m Sell, anything over £1.5m take it.
Costa 12m What would £12m get us, something better? Undecided but maybe worth 1 more season.
Hernandez 1m Keep, invaluable.
Phillips 55m Mmm, 35m & Ben White, or we could just but White & keep Phillips.
Klich 5m Keep, £5m not enough, would cost more to replace with similar.
Shackleton 1.5m Definitely keep, future star and has to be with us.
Bamford 5m Would anyone pay £5m? If yes, Sell if not Keep.
Roberts 2.5m Keep, there's a real player in there.

This👍🏿 plus he does get caught out of position a fair bit.
If your buying better getting rid doesn't present a problem, no place for sentiment these days.
