Argentinian starlets

A fairly reputable Argentinian source has said today if promoted (IF IF IF MUST REMEMBER IF).

But if promoted we have 2 Argentinian players on our radar as possible replacements for Ben White and Pablo Hernandez.

Lucas Quarta, a 24 year old cb and dm who plays for River Plate under Bielsa fan (and extremely highly rated coach) Marcelo Gallardo.

The 2nd is 22 year old playmaker Matias Zaracho who plays for Racing Club under Sebastián Beccacece who started out as an academy coach at Newells, then became assistant to Jorge Sampaoli and turned down the opportunity to be MB's assistant while he was at Chile.

Aside from the not being promoted yet and not wanting to tempt fate and of course the amount of nonsense rumours that come up.

Ive always wondered why we never went looking in Argentina for players.

Think of the influence and love Bielsa has over in his home country.

The respect and understanding of his methods players who play under his many disciples must have.

And the fact that the prices are generally far less inflated.

Argentinian players always seem to have that bit of bite and aggression needed to play in England.

Aguero, Tevez, Mascherano, Buendia, Lanzini, etc.

They seem to have an attitude that suits.

Not everyone will be a roaring success but even so, its always confused me.

The 2 mentioned are very highly rated and maybe out of our league even as a Premier league club.

But unlike the average European player who while aware of Bielsa they may not have the level of adoration needed to see him as a real pull.

Top rated Argentina players in there homeland may feel different and it may enable us to attract higher talent level players than the average newly promoted side because of it.

Not wanting to tempt fate of course but just an observation going forward.

Phil Hay has said we are scouting Argentina and Lucas Martinez Quarta is someone we are looking at but that our weird obsession with only wanting to buy players from England will probably see us go for domestic again if promoted.

Personally id be really disappointed for the reasons mentioned above.

It would be nice if we tried to think outside the box. Unless a takeover happens we wont have pots of cash, personally i think the domestic players adapt quicker is a myth, good players are good players wherever they come from. And value for money is better.

Ben White (who id love us to sign) is still only a proven 2nd division cb with no international experience at any level. Fees of £30-40million being talked about.

Lucas Martinez Quarta is a 24 year old Argentinian international with 100 or so appearances for Argentina's biggest club and has won titles and trophies while there and has been linked to Man City, Barcelona, Inter, Juventus, Real Madrid etc.

The difference in rumoured price.

Ben White - £30mil to £35mil.
Lucas Quarta- £15mil to 20mil.

If we do get promoted and dont raid Argentina it would be such a missed opportunity, failing to take advantage of the one trump card we have imo.

Bielsa and his reputation and knowledge of his home country.

Maybe our quality options will change once we're in the premiership

Those are some big, big clubs. Not letting myself get excited yet but under Bielsa Argentina could become our feeder club.

Wasn't there another player who came from there? Lionel...M-m-m... no can't think of him.

With you on that Dan. He can go all the way and I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the England squad next season . If any deal can be sorted it needs doing pronto.

It seems to me that it's not really a question of our willingness to buy but whether Brighton will let him go. I know I'd certainly be keen to keep hold of him, but then there's the case of if they are open to selling him, can we realistically match the bids of clubs already in the Prem? I would be very surprised if any of the top 6 didn't think him worth a punt.

Zaracho is class! That's exactly the kind of signing we should be looking at (IF, still if, we do it). Others to look at are Facundo Pellistri, Thiago Almada, Pedro de la Vega.

I'd be disappointed if that's our strategy. Overpriced Championship players aren't going to keep us up (if we go up). Like the Blunts spending £20m on McBurnie which looks dumb.
