Leeds Utd v Stoke City - MATCH THREAD
Leeds United v Stoke City
Thursday 9th July at 5.00pm | Elland Road
Stoke are the visitors to Elland Road on Thursday for an early evening kick off against top of the table Leeds Utd. Stoke City boss Michael O’Neill will take heart from their 4-0 home win against Barnsley courtesy of goals from Sam Vokes, Tom Ince and a brace from Tyrese Campbell which have lifted the Potters to 18th in the Championship, two points and four places from the drop zone. That was their first win at the fourth attempt since the season re-started, and one their best performances of the season.
Leeds have collected seven points from an available twelve since the season restarted. They are currently second place in the table, two points behind West Brom following their victory against Derby last night. Brentford are three points back in third place Brentford who have a far better goal difference then the Whites. Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that both Stuart Dallas and Helder Costa will be fit to play against Stoke City. The duo missed the last game through injury. Many fans believe this would be unfair on Douglas and Alioski who both played well during their 3-1 win at Ewood Park last weekend.
Starting XI
Meslier, Ayling, White, Cooper, Dallas, Phillips, Klich, Harrison, Costa, Roberts, Bamford
Subs: Miazek, Berardi, Douglas, Struijk, Stevens, Shackleton, Alioski, Poveda, Hernandez

I thought Harrison did well on the right.
Unless Bielsa i tends to put Costa on the left I think bringing those teo back in wouldnt be a great idea.
Good subs to have on the bench to bring on doending on the match situation. Especially as we are allowed five now.

A bit tough on Douglas who had a good game at Blackburn by all accounts but Dallas has had an excellent season and should come back in.
Costa on the other hand, I would keep on the bench.

Never mind Fulham, never mind Brentford, and never mind Brom. None of those teams matter if Leeds look after their business. Just focus and win.

We've got this. Time to chalk another one off.
Re: Leeds Utd v Stoke City - MATCH THREAD
Come on the Leeds. Watchin thisen. Score early, defend dead ball situations well and we should win.
Stoke are scrapping for their lives despite all the investment from the Coates family. I don't know if they are a team of well paid failures? Nathen Jones couldn't inspire them that's for sure.

You also have to take into consideration the fact that it was Douglas's first full match in a long time so he might not even be ready to play 2 matches in quick succession yet.

Need another early goal from Patrick Bamford.
If we can get another win, that drastically increases our odds of going up.

Not to mention motivate the lads even more. That might not seem possible considering the stakes, but it's akin to the runner who manages to find that last burst of energy to propel themselves over the finishing line, regardless of whether the chasing pack is miles or inches behind them.WestgateRun wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 2:39 pm Need another early goal from Patrick Bamford.

Re: Leeds Utd v Stoke City - MATCH THREAD
Following Stoke’s big win at the weekend they may feel more inclined to come out and play this evening. With Wigan’s points deduction, they are more or less safe from relegation and this may make they a bit braver as well. Anything that will encourage them to come out and take us on is a good thing as our biggest fear is that they would park the bus and make us huff and puff.
It’s not O’Neill’s style to pack the defence. With Northern Ireland he didn’t generally go ultra defensive and wasn’t afraid to take on a game. Hope that’s the case today.

That's the style, encapsulated the correct philosophy in a nutshell.onemoreslogan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 8:29 am Never mind Fulham, never mind Brentford, and never mind Brom. None of those teams matter if Leeds look after their business. Just focus and win.
Positive attitude, no fear, invincible fortitude, storming forward with
the cardboard crowd animated in their seats, coming to life and roaring
the boys on to victory, and as a counterpoint Bielsa does the Slavic Gopnik
squat and smiles contentedly to himself, whilst contemplating the fact
that Jorge Luis Borges, who is blind, can be the director of the National Library
in Argentina. The delicious irony of it... a blind man in charge of all the books.
Why it is almost as tasty as Leeds winning the Championship.
Re: Leeds Utd v Stoke City - MATCH THREAD
very unfair on the two guys if they miss out.
Bamford to score first
Bamford to score first

Great to see Stuart Dallas back great season,
Hopeful Costa has a good game too.
We're needing big players to deliver now and get back top.
Beisla believes not only on himself but much more importantly on these players & this Club...Marching on Together.
COME ON LEEDS UNITED.
