Squad player for now, but with the potential to become a starter. 7/10

Contrary to popular opinion, Bielsa doesn't give youth that much of a chance. Certainly not anything like in the way that David O'Leary did during his time as manager. This, and his unswerving loyalty to Paddy are the only two things that I don't like about him as our manager.

Like others have said, definitely keep but on the bench, good cover in 2 positions.

On the couple of games he played, ignoring Cardiff as that was a one off, 7/10

Squad player, but can't see him playing much unless Phillips and Forshaw are injured.

6/10 rating, potential to be 8/10.

Not seen enough of the lad to give him a fair review. The bits i have seen he looked strong and competitive and he could turn out to be a good shoe-in for Phillips.

If we do sign a few players he could be pushed back down the pecking order again. I'm going to say subs bench. 6.5/10 for potential... Will he get that chance?

A lot of potential for sure so a first team squad place for sure right now

Season rating would be a 5 for me, just didn't get used enough to warrant higher

Great squad member who got better with more minutes. Has all the attributes and only a lack of experience lets him down occasionally. Definitely keep and if no game time to January could go on loan to a top end Championship team in Jan.

7/10 (Not much time but looked good and THAT pass warrants the score on it's own.

Struijk is a high potential for very near future.

IMO, in the 3 games he played he showed more creativity than Phillips at CM, and can get up to head a ball.

Definitely retain him and hope he continues to develop. Hard to really judge him yet but did okay in the minutes he played.

Rating: 7

Can't believe people knocking Bielsa for not playing more youth players. He was hired to get us promoted not to simply play as many young players as he could. We flogged the likes of Wilkes, Odour, Halme, Pearce and probably others and did any of them do anything elsewhere to suggest they were good enough for our first team? Just because they are young doesn't mean they are better than the first team players - you have to earn your right to start. Stuijk did okay when he got the chance but would anyone really start the season with him playing instead of anybody else in the team (especially if we get White to return)? Gotts did okay against Arsenal but again would anyone drop anyone for him at present? Shackleton clearly is the pick of the bunch and he got a reasonable amount of first team action and is probably the only one that Biesla views presently as being good enough to be a starter but equally if everyone is fit who would you drop for him?

Comments made without a knowledge or appreciation of Bielsa's protectiveness of youth players' bodies and especially minds. He will never subject them to more pressure and expectation than he thinks they can handle, as such things can ruin careers before they begin.

After a shaky few minutes against a Barnsley side fighting tooth and nail for survival in a really tough game, he played like he was born to it. Then he impressed throughout against Derby with the full weight of fan expectations on his shoulders because, let's face it, no one really wanted to lose that game. The Charlton game was death by Bielsaball and he looked as much as part of the system as Kalvin himself.

The beginnings of something really special and the combo of Strujik, Shackelton and Poveda could be really potent in the years to come. At the moment he can't really be more than a squad player but we'll see what next season brings.

Retain as squad player. Looks to have a bit of potential and is fairly imposing size wise which is something we are lacking at the moment.

Difficult to rate as he’s not had many 1st team games so far but he’s looked pretty good the few times he’s played. 7/10

Is this indicative of the risk-averse culture which has developed over the last few decades, and the general mollycoddling of young people?

Peter Lorimer was 15 when he made his 1st team debut, Billy Bremner was 17 and Norman Hunter was 19. Of course they were all so mentally and physically damaged through being suddenly thrown into the 1st team that they failed to live up to their early promise....

I was there when David Batty made his debut at Elland Rd at the age of 18 - he looked totally at home straight away and seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, putting in those crunching tackles which he subsequently became renowned for. Note that his debut was in front of a home crowd. I also watched Tommy Wright score at the age of 17 on his debut against Fulham at Elland Rd - subsequently becoming an immediate 1st team regular. Eddie Gray gave lots of other young players their debuts - John Sheridan was 18, and he immediately became a 1st team regular, Denis Irwin was 18 when he made his debut. All these players went on to have decent careers. Lee Bowyer was 19 when he made his debut, Harry Kewell was 17 and so on and so on....There is a saying that if you are good enough then you are old enough. Pele made his 1st team debut at the age of 15 for goodness sake !

Surely it wouldn't have done any harm to have put Edmondson on the bench now and again when Bamford was going through one of his goal droughts, or to have given Bogusz a chance or two as a subsitute ? They might have been revelations, but unless you give them a chance you will never find out. Edmondson could easily have been given a start in either of the last couple of games, or at the very least, put on the bench and given a run out. It was a relatively low pressure situation, so I thought it was a shame that the opportunity wasn't taken.

Retain as a squad player, although I'd like to see a couple of signings ahead of him. 4th choice CB, 3rd choice DM.

Rating: 6/10 - not truly relevant as he's only been a small part player

What about Bogusz ? He has been impressive for the U23s and made a huge impression in pre-season games. He has been on the bench one or twice, but not used. Now he's pretty annoyed about not getting a chance and we might eventually lose him. We struggled with the no 10 position when PH was injured, so why not give Bogusz a chance ? Roberts didn't do much in that position. Now we have the issue of who to use in the no 10 position next season if Hernandez can only be used sparingly - and he may well get injured at some point in the season. I don't think that Roberts is up to it.

If he was a hit then how fantastic would it be to have an 18 year old no 10 to eventually replace PH - and one who clearly has a fantastic eye for goal. I think Edmondson should have been given a chance too, even if it was just coming off the bench now and again.

Retain as a squad player.

7/10, did really well in the run in when he got his chance, can play with the ball and has some height, I really hope he can kick on and show his worth next season

The surprise of tbe restart.

His last time out iirc was the Cardiff 3-3 fiasco when he was brought on when we were cruising.

Bench player.
