The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 21st October) - Koch rises to the challenge but Phillips out until December

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 21st October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road.

Shoulder injury to keep Phillips on sidelines until December

Leeds United have been dealt a massive blow with the news that Kalvin Phillips will be sidelined until December after injuring his shoulder in Monday's defeat to Wolves. The ever present midfield suffered the injury after being fouled late on in Leeds' 1-0 reverse, and could now be out until December. Fortunately, the England star will not require surgery.

With only 48 hours until Leeds face high flying Villa, who will replace Phillips as defensive midfielder? Klich has played there before for the Whites. That could open up an opportunity for Jamie Shackleton to get some game. Similarly Hernandez is now back to full fitness and would love to be in the starting XI.

Koch rises to the challenge

After a clumsy start, having given away two penalties in his first couple of games, Leeds defender Robin Koch has gone from strength to strength. The 24 year old German International has been an integral part of Bielsa’s back line, after yet another solid display against Wolves on Monday evening.

He completed 94% of his passes, six interceptions, 17 ball recoveries, and won 75% of his aerial duels. His average so far this term for passing accuracy is 90%, higher than Ben White last season in the Championship.

Koch can mix up his passing too. He's completed 80% of his sweeping diagonals into wide areas giving wingers the chance to launch attacks. How good can Koch be? In years to come, will we be comparing him to the Chief?

Klich for Phillips and Shack in for Klich seems like the neatest way to do it. Seen talk of Koch moving forward to DM, but we don't need anymore disruption to the back line with Cooper out. And Koch and Struijk look comfortable playing together.

Even in the Liverpool game, Koch looked a good player once he got over conceding a penalty so early. Has improved game on game, we are certainly not missing Ben White so far.

Hang on I read up to 6 weeks, I know some like to act like Yorkshire is another Universe where the principles of space and time dont apply the same but 6 weeks gets us to the beginning of December.

And havent you heard?

Crimbo has been cancellled Santa cant get round quarantine.

Villa game. If it was me I'd change the shape of the team. 4-2-3-1

Invite them on, hit them on the break.

Wasn't Llorente only going to be out for two games? If that's still the case then Strujik should be able to slot in for Kalvin soon enough. Not what we needed though I think we'll cope.

Phillips out for 6 weeks is really bad luck - just watch Klich get injured against AV then we’d be in a right pickle.

Koch looks a real bargain at the price we paid - a real classy defender not dissimilar to Ben White in many ways apart from the price of course. Looks like very good business.

Apparently Llorente has a history of injuries, which makes you wonder why we thought it was a good idea to buy him.

Koch on the other hand looks like great business. We don't hear from Brighton fans anymore....

One of the game's I played in (rugby) when I was serving in New Zealand... I was playing for the NZ School of Armour against a visiting Tongan Army unit... it was a blood bath, everything you have heard about "Islanders" is true... one broken leg on our team, one broken collor bone on theirs... Then a maul got out of control, which turned into basicly a 15 on 15...after it all settled down we saw our hooker was laid face down, when we turned him over one of the Tongan's had bit his nose off and gouged out an eye...This was in the 1st half!... the match was abandoned !

These injuries happen

At least Kalvin is not out for the season unlike Van Dijk, a position where Liverpool are extremely vulnerable.

Citeh also had their share of injuries De Bruyne being the latest, Aguero is just back after a long period out injured

Villa missed McGuin big-time last season

Many other clubs have similar problems, we'll have to deal with our injuries accordingly & hope we come out it without suffering too much damage to our form & standing in the PL
