Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 30th October) - Ben White 'gutted' to miss out on Elland Road switch

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Friday 30th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

White 'gutted' to miss out on opportunity to join Leeds in the Summer

Kalvin Phillips has revealed that Ben White felt “gutted” when Brighton made it clear they would not sell an influential player to a club of the same pedigree as them (or Leeds)! The central defender, now 23, made a real impact last season playing in every single league game of the season, and instrumental as the Whites finally gained promotion back to the Premiership after 16 years.

Off the field White and Phillips really hit it off too. In fact, Phillips, White and Roberts were pictured together on holiday in Spain having just secured their passage to the promised land of the Premiership. Phillips told Leeds That podcast...

Obviously he was gutted at the time when he didn’t sign. But it came to a point where you have to just forget about the chance to play for Leeds and just play football. I don’t really talk to him about football now, just ask how he and his family are doing.

Danny Rose to become free agent

Former Leeds academy starlet Danny Rose has told told his Manager Jose Mourino that he won’t play competitive football this season, unless he moves! Leeds, Leicester and Newcastle Utd were all linked to the 30 year old in the Summer, but neither parties could agree a deal. His current contract runs out at Tottenham at the end of the season; however Rose does not want to wait until then. He wants his contract terminated now.

Is Rose a good player to have around the dressing room? As a freebie, is he worth taking a risk on? Should Leeds match his 60k a week wage demands?

Morning Folks

White would have been great and arguably we would have left Anfield with a point had he been on hand.

But we got two players for his price and havent looked back.

Rose. Can't see it, but if we are leaking goals and in a relegation battle come January maybe.

And those two players...
White Rose.....

Danny Rose to become free agent

Made my opinion known in anther thread...IMO definatley no way for a variety of reasons...

White 'gutted' to miss out on opportunity to join Leeds in the Summer

Still feel for the lad, he should be wearing a Leed's shirt... but I dont think we need to spend 50 mill on him now, so much going for us.

I was gutted when it became clear that Brighton weren't about to let Ben White leave unless silly money was offered but we got Koch and Llorente for what we were offering for White so its turned out to be a blessing imo. Koch has been excellent so far and we still have Llorente to see once he's injury free.

Ben hasn't looked the same player this season from what I have seen of him so far but its probably down to:
1) The disappointment of not signing for Leeds
2) Getting used to different players and formations
3) Playing against premiership standard strikers
There's no doubting his ability though and I wish him all the best.

Will always be a big fan of White and who knows what the future will hold, but football's not a sport of sentiment, at least not anymore. Doesn't matter where a player was born or which team he holds close to his heart, his owning club and agent hold all the cards and their aims are rarely if ever aligned.

No to Rose. Unless Bielsa wants him, of course.

Morning Ellandback, hope you are feeling better.

I still hope that at sometime in the not too distant future, somehow, Ben will play for Leeds again, although now we have Llorente, it will probably not happen. I still think Koch and White would have made a great pairing and could have, potentially, become the best in the league for a decade.

Even as a free agent I don’t think we have any need to bring Rose in for £60000 a week. With Dallas as 1st choice and Alioski (who played superbly against Villa) and Davis (with bags of potential) as back ups why would we even consider it?

We have a saying in the States: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

With Dallas and Alioski, we're set at left back, so no need for Rose, especially with the wage bill he brings with him.

Afternoon EB et all

Not really an big surprise Ben wanted to stay here, why would he want to spend the year fighting a relegation battle when he could have been fighting for a top 6 place - a no brainer

Danny oh Danny Boy not for me lost at least a yard of pace, definitely no better than the 3 we have so why would you pay him £60k per week as back up to those. Wish him all the best but not for us I'm afraid.

Would have loved Ben White to stay, but the transfer fees quoted were becoming ridiculous. Really happy we got Robin Koch. Interestingly, would we have signed Koch and White instead of Llorente?

I was loving the idea of Danny Rose when we got promoted. Now I'm all in on Dallas, Alioski, and Davis at left-back. I'd doubt that Rose will ever become the player again that he was a couple of years ago. He seems a bit mentally unstable. Refusing to play is pretty bad in my book. Then he was on the news telling a story about getting pulled over by cops in Donny for driving a nice car. Seems like he wants the attention. Not for us.

We brought Llorente in as back up to Koch and Cooper. So, if we had have been able to sign Ben White for around £20m, we would still have been looking for a 3rd player as back up to him and Cooper and may still have looked at bringing Koch in anyway, who at £13m looks like a steal. Don’t get me wrong I’m quite with the 3 specialist centre backs we have, but White alongside Koch would, to me, would have been the dream scenario for the future.

Glad to hear your back up and running EB. Chest infection + Asthma is a lousy combo but it always seems inevitable. When my inhalers don't cut through the chest infection its a double whammy.

Its a shame for White but he's signed a improved deal down south i think for another 4 years. Great player obviously loved everything about the club but signing a new deal he's come to terms with it.

As for Rose. I don't think Bielsa would be interested. Rose as had personal issues. It may do him good to play abroad for a few years. Good luck to him.

That's kind of what I was hinting at. Cooper would still have had seniority. I guess White would too. So Koch would have found himself crafting his way in like Llorente. Of course, with either of Cooper and Phillips injured would have got White and Koch both in the team

Hope you're feeling better Elland.

Rose: Nope from me. Left the club with comments that sour the taste for me. Also wouldn't be able to keep up with the fitness demands of Bielsa. Alioski answered the question for me last week with a very good display and happy he is still around the squad for a multitude of reasons.

White: Also feel for the guy as he had found his home with our club. Koch and White would have been formidable at the back, but very very happy with Koch as the "White" signing.

With Llorente, who we have yet to see but has lots of class, and Struijk, we have a great flexibility to cover the key defensive and DM positions. Koch, Cooper, Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Phillips, Dallas, Davis, Alioski. Happy with that.

Maybe one day we get to see White back at Leeds, but not at the prices Brighton wanted.
