Bielsa pre Leicester press conference. WHAT IS THE POINT?

Post by Cjay »

Taken from Leeds-Live.

Injury news - Cooper and Llorente

Cooper is fine now, but Llorente won’t be fit for this weekend.

[Time scale?]

Subject to the evolution of the injury.

[Time scale Phillips?]

Again it’s subject to the evolution of the injury.

How helpful to have more time between games after Villa?

If we had played on the weekend we would have been fine to resolve the issue as well. The fact we’ve had more days to prepare for this game means we will have less days for the Crystal Palace game. You get one thing, but it goes for you now and against the next time.

For coaching can it be easier having a full week between games?

Yes, it’s better when you have more time (good to see Beren asking those difficult thought provoking questions).

Shackleton - minded to start against Leicester?

I have yet to pick the XI for this weekend.

How do Leicester compare to previous opponents?

Not especially. They’re a team playing the same style for some time now. All the teams in the Premier League are a very high level and present similar challenges. Of course, some teams are above the rest, but the rest of the teams, generally, are difficult to face.

Assessment as a whole so far? Achievable position?

It’s too premature to make conclusions at this moment in time.

Cooper boost?

He’s at a very good level, but I haven’t picked the XI yet. Being able to count on him is very good.

Leicester play a way you enjoy watching?

Yes, they’re a team who manage the ball well and have the spirit to attack.

Vardy - threat he poses - still dangerous at his age

He’s a very good player who scores lots of goals and he’s very quick. He’s a player who’s quite older, I’m not aware of this.

Bamford confident since Friday?

He’s had a normal week, but it’s true when a striker scores goals his confidence increases.
(Another real probing question).

Vardy - unique pace - affect your approach?

Of course we take into account all the characteristics of the opponent’s attackers, but there won’t be any particular changes ith that in mind.

Raphinha close to starting?

I haven’t defined an XI for Monday, so all 22 players could start and have a possibility to start on Monday.

Great faith in young players - how important for Leeds identity to bring academy players through?

It’s very important as the academy helps out and contributes a large number of players to the first team.

Confidence to play them from training performances?

In the case of Shackleton he’s played in the first team before and every time he has played with personality and done a good job.

New players take time to settle into a new country? Case with Koch? Ahead of schedule?

There’s no strict rules in this sense, there’s a lot of variation, but its true Robin’s had a quick adaptation.

PPV opinion on fans paying extra?

Public authorities should be asked this because they will have any solution.

Good to see Coops is fit again

We have more time to prepare now we're in the PL, last season we were playing three games a week in the championship

Non-committal on his team selection whereas last season Marcelo was naming his team in the press conference.....will he start Ayling at CB v the Foxes?

Surely Bielsa has earmarked Vardy for special attention

You think Ayling as a 3rd CB or instead of Cooper? I think he'll just go back to his settled back 4 with Cooper. Probably have Koch marking Vardy

What is the point of these press conferences

No mention of Rodrigo missing the game due to covid protocol
No mention of Raphinha's injury

So are we without our three international signings + Phillips for the Palace game now?

Or is it men v boys again?

Simply by not mentioning any of the above just shows how Bielsa knew in advance the importance their loss was for this game. Normally he would flag these absences.

To be fair Leon, he cant win. Year or so ago he was being lambasted for giving he's team out 24-48 hours before games, even revealing injuries. So I think the fact that he doesn't mention them now is probably down to that. And I would say its probably the correct thing to do. Why give the opposition a head start on knowing how you plan to play and with whom ?!

Rod and LLorente definitely out for Palace. Raphinha may be touch and go, not serious knock.

Bielsa also knows that the spotlight is brighter in this league. There are even more untrustworthy football writers interested now, so why give them info?

Btw I had to stay in for 14 days due to being in contact with a positive Covid test so yes Rod is out. But I hope Leeds politely ask him not to travel to the Internationals.
Same for them all really ( apart from Dallas of course 😉)
