Wish Giles was walking into Leeds now at that age imagine him playing Bielsa Ball

Johnny didn't require perfect pitch conditions to pass a ball, use to pass a football like a golfer putting the winning shot at the British Open.
Giles had everything in his locker, a leader on the pitch & one of the best penalty takers too!

That is a super picture Chapelallman! Johnny Giles is the reason why I, and many in Ireland, follow Leeds United. He was such a hero of mine and he’s still held in such high regard here. What a legend!
Recently a friend of mine got me a proper vintage, long sleeved 1970’s number 10 shirt signed by the great man himself. He wished me the best personally along with the signature on the shirt. I couldn’t believe it. My buddy has a family connection that I didn’t know about and he knew I’d love it. He was so right. It’s absolute gold to me!

Really glad you like the picture Boo - I hadn't seen it before, and just stumbled on it yesterday. It's a pivotal moment in the club's history really, as it ushered in the golden era of the 60s and 70s.Boo Radley wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 7:55 pm That is a super picture Chapelallman! It's hard to pick a favourite player from the Revie era, but I think on balance Johnny Giles would be my pick - pure finesse and skill allied to a steely hardness. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Giles had been appointed as manager instead of Clough. This clip is terrific ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWeH7Qtzfc0

That’s a great clip, especially when it was put together by a school!CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 9:57 am Really glad you like the picture Boo - I hadn't seen it before, and just stumbled on it yesterday. Revie recommended him to the Leeds board to follow him as the Leeds manager. It was such a pity that the board backed out of offering it to him. He may have extended those glory years even further, who knows. He certainly showed his managerial skills at WBA afterwards.
Busby later said that selling Giles to Leeds was his biggest mistake in his managerial career. A considerable backhanded compliment!
