Why don't we shoot?

Post by 1964white »

Why don't we shoot from outside the box?

Watching the Foxes v Chelski tonight, Leicester shoot at every given opportunity

By half-time they'd had five shots:

Ndidi's wonderful goal from 25 yards
Another long range tipped over the bar by Mendy.
Maddison's shot from outside the box, unlucky as his effort rattles the crossbar.
Vardy denied by Mendy as he shoots from inside the box.
Maddison takes one touch before slotting it into the far corner for the Foxes 2nd goal

The last time I can remember Leeds shooting on target from outside the box was Jack's goal v the baggies. The majority of our rare long range shots generally end up in the stands :(

When teams sit back against us, we still try to find a way through a packed penalty area instead of shooting occasionally.
There are plenty of times, Klich especially, but he’s not the only one, could curl one in - but instead curl it into the six yard box for a header when Bamford has two CB’s marking him.

Maybe we've been told not to ..Also teams always seem to get the block in v us. Klich and Alio do when they get a chance

We do need to have a longer range pop at goal now and again, rather than walk/pass it into the net the vast majority of the time.

Why would MB instruct his players not to 🤔

I wish we would, maybe we could get a deflection and a corner, oh wait, we don't score from them either !

Probably because we take one touch too many allowing defenders time to block the shot.

Even Liverpool with their strike-force of Salah, Firmino & Mane are having similar problems to us as they spend too much time trying to walk the ball into the net.

Considering our game is all about attack, attack, attack our shooting is relatively poor & in our last few games shots on target have been virtually non-existent.

Two brilliant goals v Everton & West Brom but those type of quality shots are few & far between even from Raphinha, we've all witnessed what he is capable but we need more not only from him but the rest of the squad as well.

Good point Velo, we don't seem to get many free-kicks just outside the box as other clubs do!

When we do manage to earn a set-piece outside the box, I'm struggling to recall when we have curled a FK over a defensive wall & planted the ball into the corner of the net, maybe Pablo?

I've just been on the Premier league website to see how we fair with goals scored outside the box compared to other teams.

The club that's scored the most goals outside the box so far this season with 8 goals is...
Leeds United.

6 is the next best.
Villa- Leicester- Spurs

What about Harrison's against Newcastle too, trouble is we go through a bad patch and some folk forget the good and how far we've come in such a comparatively short time, sad really.

WOW!

I going have to look back at the results

Harrison (Liverpool)
Raphinha (Everton)
Harrison (Newcastle)
Raphinha (West Brom)

Come to mind so far :duno:

Doesn't take away the fact we don't shoot accurately enough!
