What amount of points will be the cut-off level to avoid relegation?

Post by 1964white »

Many fans think the safety mark is 40 points.

Personally I reckon it will be much lower, could be as low as 30 points. 35 is probably the more realistic figure.

I think Blades and Albion will have really low points tally ...low to mid twenties , next side will probably IMO have around 36ish , some poor sides in the lower half of the table .

We currently have 23 points and we'll need, at least, 35. We might just make it.

I've gone for 33, as Sheff u and Wb are gone already, so it's just who finishes 3rd bottom and I think Burnley will struggle to double their points tally in the remaining games

I can't understand why people think that this season will be lower than the traditional 40.

I will insert a quick disclaimer here, that I haven't checked to see if 40 is an accurate number of points (generally) to avoid relegation over the years.

Surely with the league being 'tighter' than usual and the top teams less dominant, that means that the teams just above the relegation zone will get more points than usual.

I agree Harry.

Usually if the average points total of the top four teams is high then the points required for survival is low, and vice versa.

We can expect that the top four this season are going to have a low total points average and the points required to survive will be higher, as a result, than in recent Premier Leagues. Too many lower teams are taking points of the top teams, e.g. Burnley V Pool tonight.

I think that at least 38 will be required to be safe. I do hope it’s less but it’s best to be prepared.

Supercomputer 538 says 34 pts required 17th place ...Leeds still on a 46 pt final prediction... Best to just keep going for maximum we can

18th placed Fulham haven't won one of their last 8 games - require 23 points from their final 20 games to reach the 35 mark

17th placed Brighton have only won one of their last 9 games (not that impressive v Leeds) - require 18 points from their final 19 games to reach the 35 mark

33 for me.

Blunts doomed for me and then a pairing from WBA, Fulham, Brighton, Burnley and Newcastle.

If Bruce isn't sacked Newcastle could quite easily get relegated :duno:
