How the hell did Villa beat us?

Post by 1964white »

They were extremely average despite the Blunts played with ten men for the last 35 minutes.

To be fair the Blunts defended well to earn the fourth victory of a torrid season

Villa weren't great at ER, truth is we never got going.

So annoying we handed a average team three cheap points after we thrashed the hides off them at Villa Park.

True, we never really got going and they got the early goal.

How have Wolves beaten us twice?

One defensive error against Villa, then they shut up shop and wasted sime for 45 minuites.

Yes, the early goal for them was key.

That allowed them to sit en masse in their own box and then dive, waste time and just be as negative as possible for the remaining 84 minutes, which they did with a passion because that’s their nature.

As seen tonight, when they go on the offensive they are so poor it’s not funny. We just needed to stop them scoring and we’d have beaten them, even playing as poorly as we did. It’s very disappointing to see that so clearly tonight.

They also destroyed Liverpool earlier in the season...they've just been very inconsistent like us

Two fluke goals

Wolves are no better than a Allardyce side

Very disappointing Boo especially as Villa looked distinctly average again tonight

On our day we are much better side than Villa even though sit two places above us in the table

Easy question

Teams raise their games against us and no one takes us for granted. Poor reffing and the pitch also worked against us.

Pitch is the same for both teams.

Surely we've practiced on it which should give us an advantage.

The real answer to the thread title is because we're as inconsistent as hell, but entertaining and playing the football that everybody loves to see.

We're actually in danger of being loved by a large section of the watching neutrals.

Nail on the head, we are so inconsistent.

Yes we are entertaining although against an average Villa side for once we weren't anywhere near as flamboyant, in fact I nearly went to sleep on the sofa as we were as dull as dishwater

Injuries to key players on a large scale hasn't helped our cause one bit.

To the blunts credit they defended well for a third of the game with ten men, unconvinced how we would defend a lead with ten men as we are much more gun-ho than the majority of PL clubs.

Not really, we play a fastbreak high intensity game that needs a good playing surface. Villa don't

I think one thing we can all agree on is that we need a new pitch, so the sooner the better.

It may not be popular to say so, but the team is very inconsistent - MB has pointed this out as well. As one pundit has just said, when this Leeds team are good they are very good and when they are poor they are very poor. We still need to keep an eye on the likes of Fulham and make sure the gap doesn't suddenly narrow with so many tough matches left to the end of the season. Sometimes I feel that complacency has set in about ' being an established mid table team. ' It's worth remembering too that very likely we will not finish as high in the table as the Blunts managed in their first season back, and the chances are high that it may be quite a few places lower.

Unfortunately our high intensity style would have been impossible on the previous mudbath.

We need to find a way of adapting to the current playing surface.

Just mentioned our difficult fixture list on another topic Chapel
