Interestingly Donald McCain was Red Rum's trainer... he also trained my pick in 2004 Amberliegh House...

That was a tough one mate...9/1 JF with Red Rum... but he was carrying top weight that day (12st, that weight now illegal in the race) 15 lengths clear at the last fence...weight was the downfall Red Rum carrying 23lbs less... beat him by half a length, RR's first National.

I think about 84/85 I ran the squadron sweepstake only one ticket left and the horse was called Last Suspect so I took it, on the Saturday morning when I went to the Bookies ( yes that was a real think back in the day) I picked a couple of horses but couldn’t think of the last one so took Last Suspect I think at 63-1 so dropped a cheeky each way and had a right night when it romped home

Not bloody won since though

The last time I backed the winner was Seagram, which must have been 30 odd years ago now.

I can’t recall what the odds were, but I won £50/60 from memory

It was Cat, 1991.

You must have staked a fiver on it :)

One of the bigger price winners of the National

Last Suspect was owned by the Duchess of Westminster

Someone on here had a winner at even larger odds, I won't say who, I suspect he'll be posting soon.

Annoyingly I had Mon Mone the year before it won.

My grandad entered a horse at the Grand National many years ago. He always was a dirty b*gger.

having backed Sebastien V in the '77 scottish national and having seen him romp home, just had to back him each way at 25/1 in the 78 grand national, only to see him beaten by lucius, by a mere half a length

The only time I ever get on anything was around 1981 , Corbiere who won , decided to quit while ahead 😁. Saw the futility and desperation in betting shops as I worked at Ladbrokes for around 6 years .
