Hopefully Phil soon makes a full recovery.

I had a brain operation (subdural hematoma) 40 years ago & I'm still alive & kicking :-D

Very sad news, I hope Phil makes a full recovery to good health.

He's a great guy who seems to fully understand what supporting Leeds United is all about.

Phil Hay in 2019

"the fact that 13 seasons haven’t tempted me to take a different direction says something about how intoxicating Elland Road is: not always healthy, not always good for you but highly addictive and impossible to leave alone; a place with soul and a place which captures your mind.

An astonishing number of people despise Leeds United or what Leeds United stand for. But this club was never made for them."

I am sure that Phil Hay does dive into the forums occasionally to hear what fans are saying about our team, and although I don't know Phil in any personal way, he seems like a very good guy whom I've always enjoyed his insights into Leeds United. Wishing him (or you if you're reading this) a speedy recovery to full health and looking forward to reading his/your articles and hearing the podcast again soon.

I would suggest that we petition Bielsa to do the operation, I am sure that he would be excellent and Phil would get better in no time.

I’ve always enjoyed his articles on Leeds United, from his time with the YEP and now with The Athletic. His balanced reports never shy away from unpopular truths or reasonable criticism but can be hugely uplifting, witty and generous as well. No other journalist has a finger on the pulse of the club like Phil has.

His podcast with the crew of the Square Ball has also kept me company on many an evening’s walk through the season.

I wish him the best of luck tomorrow and a speedy recovery.
