That's really not FNM at their best by a distance

Scritti Politi 'Cupid & Psyche'
First time I've listened to this album in a very long time, Leeds band apparently, as Nick has already stated the album revolves around their two hit singles & yes does sound rather dated. 2/5

Manassas - after a couple of listens a solid 1/2Muppet the Cat wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 6:26 pm So that will be:
257 - Manassas ‘Manassas’ (unknown to me)
569 - The The ‘Infected’
827 - Everything But The Girl ‘Walking Wounded’
Infected - didn’t really rate at the time and that hasn’t changed
Walking Wounded - OK, but nowhere near as good as my favourite EBtG album, Baby the Stars Shine Bright, so 1/2

152 - Elvis in Memphis ... The best way to listen to Elvis is pick the track you wanna hear, play it, forget about Elvis for a few more years. Done to Death 1/5
674 - Happy Mondays - Pills Thrills and Bellyaches - Can't stand the Mondays, up there with Oasis for me. 0/5
888 - Death in Vegas - The Contino Sessions - We have this on once a week so no need to listen again. Absolute classic 5/5

142 - Johnny Cash 'Live at San Quentin' - I can't think of a musician more suited to playing to a prison crowd than JC. His easy interaction with the inmates, their response to him and the band and the choice of tracks. Superb album 5/5
479 - Siouxsie and the Banshees 'JuJu' - in my opinion, their dark masterpiece. Essential listening 5/5
636 - Faith No More 'The Real Thing' - I saw this lot at the Reading festival late 80s/early 90s, they put on a decent show. As for the album, there's a few recognisable tracks on here, but also an awful lot of filler. I listened the whole way through, but got bored with it after a bit and it simply became background music. 2/5

Absolutely agree re Elvis and Contino, except that I never find myself wanting to hear anything by Elvis.faaip wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 12:18 pm 152 - Elvis in Memphis ... Want to stick up for Pills n Thrills though; the comparison to Oasis is really unkind. Probably comes down to whether you can stick Shaun Ryder or not, but the music itself is great; danceable, summery, funky, textured, with some lovely understated guitar work. Nothing like Oasis's lumpen dirge imo.

Jeff Beck - Truth
I've been putting this off for about a week now, and with good reason. I've never been able to get into Jeff Beck, despite him being one of those guitarists you 'ought' to like if you play guitar. This album was certainly not a good place to start. It's run of the mill late 60s blues rock, with that stylised, over the top, male rock vocal that I just cannot listen to anymore. The bulk of the album seems to be a fairly naff selection of covers too. Why we needs Jeff Beck's version of Greensleeves is anyone's guess.
There's a tendency I've noticed with this list to pick the debut album of a prolific artist, when there is much better stuff to choose from. I suspect this is true of JB, but it certainly doesn't inspire me to delve any further.
