Music 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. - Join in folks.

Post by 1964white »

Simple idea; you get three random albums each time from the book......

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Each album in the link below is numbered 1 to 1001 so I'll draw three numbers for each player (without the knowledge of knowing which three I've chosen for you.

This will go on until you've listened to them in your own time, once you have listen to the three albums I'll choose another three numbers for you

We'll discuss the albums we have heard, it maybe the case where you need to turn off after a couple of tracks of certain albums not to your liking

I suggest you tick each album you've listen to on the link for your own interest.

There's an awful lot of unlistenable junk in there .... but I'll start it and see how we go...

I haven't checked the link, so the list is probably 99% crap, but it gives me a chance to test my new wi-fi ear buds - Here are 3 random numbers for yourself - 47, 372, 612.

Awful lot of rap on there and repetition, Hip Hop not bad for me but has Rainy pulling out her hair I think. About 30% is new to me, about 25% of that is junk...

Wernham Hogg of waccoe designed a nice programme for a one a day hit where you can rank and comment on the album. Excellent thread over there.

Ooh one I haven't heard previously :)

The young lady would be happy with my 2nd choice.

299 is The Isley's 3+3 - I own it and it's ok. A lot of filler and Summer Breeze - 1/5

672 - Digital Underground - Sex Packets - Got this awhile back and it's the very worst of incredibly banal hip hop, lyrics incredibly forced making Will Smith sound like NWA... 0/5 - One of those albums you wonder how it got on this list. It shouldn't be anywhere near a list of million and 1 tracks

901- Air - Virgin Suicides - Not their best by a distance, we do own it but it gets left on the shelf when we play Air.. 2/5

All done

OK - So first problem, my first choice is The Doors - The Doors which I own, so I can listen to, however I don't have Spotify Premium, and I won't be getting it either, so how do I listen to albums I don't own. ? Please don't say Youtube.

93 - The Doors - The Doors - The Doors, for me was all about Ray Manzarek's plinky Vox Continental organ sound and Jim Morrison's vocals, and they don't let you down on this, especially on Light My Fire, Break On Through and Back Door Man. Not as rounded as the sound on LA Woman but very enjoyable none the less. I don't really get on with The End, which some consider a classic. Rambles on a bit, for me 4/5.

Spotify & YouTube are the only sites I use when listening to albums I do not own!

I personally would rate 3+3 much higher with an album that includes Summer Breeze' 'That Lady' & possibly my favourite Isley's s song 'The Highways Of My Life'

Haven't heard the album in a while though, I'll wait until that album is selected for me.

247 - Curtis Mayfield - Superfly -

872 - Mercury Rev - Deserter's Songs -
I enjoy all three of those albums & I agree with you entirely on 'The End'
