Manic Street Preachers 'The Holy Bible'
Had to turn off after four tracks, never been a fan....not for me 1/5

I've had both before with the album a day list.
Tom Petty I really like as an artist, and this is a decent album, but it's not one I ever think to listen to. We used to do Breakdown in the covers band though.
As for the Kanye, I can't stand hip-hop in general, and I have tried quite a bit of it from this list, but this album was more musical than most. Still not something I'd listen to by choice.

Seems to be many albums in this book all of us dislike or have a take it or leave it attitude towards themSaraM wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 11:05 pm I've had both before with the album a day list.

Thanks Cat.Muppet the Cat wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 9:26 pm 84 - Beau Brummels ‘Triangle’
385 - Dennis Wilson ‘Pacific Ocean Blue’
702 - U2 ‘Achtung Baby’
I've already listened to the Dennis Wilson album, enjoyed it so much I made a swift purchase & POB now sits nicely on my shelves alongside the Beach Boys & his bruv's albums.
There is a list of all the albums we have listened to on the fourth post down in the first page of this topic.
Meanwhile I'll give the other two albums a listen, Achtung Baby is U2's last great album imo!

Dennis W and U2 were in the 3 numbers you gave me.

I've listened to 250 of them so far, so a quarter of the way there, with an average rating of 2.9. I've discovered perhaps four or five new artists or albums that I didn't know, which I've bought and will become part of my regular listening.
The average rating isn't representative; I mostly give fours or fives, or ones and two. There are the classics, most of which we already know and love, and then an awful lot of dross, or stuff that is of no interest.

I think my average rating is going be similar to yours even though I enjoy a wide range of genres.SaraM wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:25 am I've listened to 250 of them so far, so a quarter of the way there, with an average rating of 2.9. Quite a punky album for the Manics, did nothing for me though!Muppet the Cat wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 8:00 am Knew you wouldn’t get on with that 64. like the MSPs, but have never got on with THB.

Some of the choices seem quite odd, like picking an artist's debut album over their best work. Seems a bit tokenistic, from people who don't really know the full catalog.

331 Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert. Turned this off after 10 minutes, a guy (talented, no doubt) just playing a piano, not for me 0/5
420 The Saints - Eternally Yours. Another band I'd heard of but never listened to. Really enjoyed this, you can hear echoes of the Ramones, the Stranglers, even a bit of the Fall in here. Favourite track probably the opener Know Your Product. Well worth a listen 4/5
999 Bjork - Vulnicura. Boring, skipped through the, predominantly, lengthy tracks hoping to find something of interest. Didn't. 0/5

Bob Dylan - Freewheelin'
This obviously has several classic songs on it, but his earliest albums aren't the easiest to listen to. Blonde On Blonde and Highway '61 easily surpass it. This is another selection where I feel it's been included mainly for the sake of completeness.
Dire Straits - Dire Straits
This album and Communiqué are the best Straits, for me, and the only ones I listen to, before they became too bland and commercial. Communiqué pips it, but both are superb.
Beth Orton - Central Reservation
Album doesn't quite live up to opening track, Stolen Car, or to Trailer Park imo, but it's still very good, if you like her voice and style. Softer stylings than the debut.

DW ‘POB’ - a fairly familiar album, although not played for a while
U2 ‘Achtung Baby’ - one of the very best U2 albums IMO

I love The Manics Leon and when it came out I was hoping for a great album, as Gold Against The Soul was very good.
But just found Holy Bible depressing and a symptom of Ritchie's mental health issues.
