31 years ago...the tackle we'll never forget...

Post by Mountain »

31 years ago tonight, Claudio Caniggia skipped away from 2 tackles...and ran into a steamroller...
Arguably a bit of a watershed in racist stereotypes of African teams. Before then the media portrayed them as happy go lucky types, the opposite of the Germans who knew what it took to win. And then that Cameroon team landed in and showed...they knew just what it took to hold on for one of the greatest shock wins ever.

I'm not glorifying a vicious tackle but I will glorify that Cameroon team in general.
They brought a breath of fresh air to the stultified WC 'Norm'.
I spent the first week of the '90' WC in a hotel in Bolton on a 'Management Improvement Seminar' which proved to be mostly useless standard reiterration of every management theory, but the football was superb.

I watched the docu-film '89' on Sky last night about the last gasp Arsenal win at Anfield which secured them the title.
Some of the fouls in that game were unbelievable and would be definite reds in today's game but some were not even yellows!
In most cases, the player just got to his feet and carried on.
How the game has changed....

What about the assault on Alfie Haaland by Roy Keane.

GBH - He should have gone to prison.

One reason his son should never play for Man U
