Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 16th June) - Sky Sport Pundit rips into tabloid following Phillips article

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 16th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Sky Sport Pundit rips into tabloid following Phillips admission

Sky Sports pundit Aaron Mclean has ripped into the Daily Mail over a story they published about Kalvin Phillips recently. Obviously, since his man of the match performance, everyone is talking about him or to him. Instead of concentrating on a difficult child hood where Kalvin had to make do with free school dinners and his mother going hungry so her siblings could have an evening meal; the Daily Mail concentrated the headline on the fact that Kalvin's father is in prison! Pundit McClean, formerly of Bradford and Peterborough took to social media to express his anger towards the tabloid paper...

The Daily Mail is an absolute disgrace. Instead of heaping praise on Kalvin Phillips, a young man representing the country and doing an amazing job, you want to dig up dirt on his family. You’re an absolute embarrassment!

If you are a celebrity, are you fair game for the media to dredge up any past misdemeanors? Do the privacy laws in the UK need to be stricter, so not to allow journalists to twist the truth to mislead the public, or should there be free speech?

What if.......

It's fair to say that out of the seven players Leeds have on International duty, only Kalvin Phillips has made a significant splash! His man of the match performance against Croatia saw his valuation soar above £60m, double the price we sold Rio Ferdinand for back in 2002. Should Phillips continue in his rich vein of form, his worth will increase. £100m for Phillips - take it or leave it. If you took it, the 100m plus this years kitty of 70m will be reinvested in players. If rejected, it shows the rest of the World that we are not a selling club!

Cornet on Leeds radar

The Sun, and David Anderson of The Mirror have both reported that Leeds have held initial talks over Lyon's left back Maxwel Cornet. The 24 year old started his career as a forward, but has been transformed into a quality left back. His pace and skill down the left flank has caught the attention of Messrs Orta and Bielsa. but will not be progressing forward with the purchase unless Lyon lower their financial expectations!

Cornet started his youth career at Metz in 2004, and represented France in every age group from Under 16 to (and including) U 21's. Since then, Cornet has pledged his allegiance to the Ivory Coast, who he has represented 21 times! Currently Lyon want 20m, whilst Leeds believe 10-12m to be more accurate.

What if.......
So what if we are offered 100 mill for KP, if we want to keep progressing selling ourmajor assets, hoping to find someone MB can mold into filling his shoes means we are never going to progress further than we are now.... to fill KP's boots right away we would have to spend most if not all what we get for him...makes no sense whatsoever...pay him his dues show him we dont want to lose him....Same with Raph and Mes...

The Daily Heil is a right wing, race baiting rag which I wouldn't line a litter tray with. Stirling, Rashford and now Philips get the dog whistling treatment from that shower of shite.

As Smudge says above, if we want to progress, we don't sell our best assets. And I don't think we are in a position anymore where we need to.

I’m sure Kalvin is made of stronger stuff than to be the least bit affected by that kind of pathetic, so called journalism.

As for selling him at any price - I hope not, otherwise I’d have to paint over my painting of him on my “man cave” wall and I wouldn’t want to have to do that!

Morning EB et all

Love the pic of Kalvin with his mum and Granny Val in the suit he wore for his Prom.

Kalvin is from Bramley so won't give a flying fart what the Daily Racist says, in fact he's likely to respond "Yea my Dads in the nick so what, I bet he gets treated better in there now I play for England you f**k wits"

To replace Kalvin it would have to be Kanta and that would blow the £100m especially after his performance last night, what's the saying 70% of the earth is covered in water the rest is covered by Kanta

Cornet looks a prospect and I can't wait for the songs  but Leeds to stick to their guns on the valuation

Ok, I understand, but we could buy Ben White for either 45 - 50m to start with. His value will go through the roof in the next year or two.

100M is a hell of a lot of coin. Though I doubt he would draw that sort of bid. This idea of we are not a selling club is aspirational. Every club desires to profit on the TM.

I would sell. KP misses games through injury every season. Plus his role on the team means he the inevitable collection of yellow cards....

We already have Koch and Llorente who can play as defensive screen/ deep playmaker. Perhaps not as well but not not too bad.

The Daily Express carried that story too, another "working class hero" type story. KP wont be bothered he sems quite media friendly and presents himself well. Move on.

I was thinking on my walk with houndie yesterday....The press have built our Kalvin up into a hero after his game against Croatia, I wonder how long it will be before they try to bring him down. It seems to be the order of the day with our gutter press. Build em up so they can shoot em down. Disgusting and disgraceful behaviour

Pathetic gutter press. Shameless tossers.

We need to keep KP at all cost, he's the heart and soul of this team and can drive us on to great things.

No way will Bielsa let him leave anyway.

Cornet just sounds like more clickbait to me.

I'll be happy if we get our transfers in under the radar.

Since we learned to defend corners we leapt up the form table, and were incredibly hard to beat.

I'd be fairly happy with just a couple of players coming in - a specialist left back and a versatile midfield player.

With Llorente and Koch in the squad there is no need to spend £££ on someone to deputise for KP.

I think Kalvin is worth more to Leeds than his market value alone. He is emblematic of everything that is great about the club right now. He could become an inspirational hero for generations to come.

Love your phraseology Nick - very apt, given the nature of the rag in question. :whip:

I dont think the daily mail meant any harm, the sun printed the same story and as i read it showed how a young boy with a hard childhood has become an England superstar. Everbody in the country is seeing the Kalvin we all know as a polite hard working man.
