They have a billionaire owner whose also a fan, has advantages.

Fair play to him, he is owed an absolute fortune (one of the highest debts to an owner in Europe) absolutely no hope of getting it back really but he is funding his boyhood club.

That is a rarity alright. But from a footballing point of view they are not short of CB’s. White wasn’t dislodging any of their regulars and they claim to have a great academy so at some stage it must make sense to cash in and and invest up front where they were woeful all season.

the whole transfer market has to adjust to the English tax, plus that most PL teams are owned by billionaires whom don't need to sell players on the cheap.

Knowing Arsenal's transfer strategy, it was probably 10 m up front and 30m in installments... they owe like 150m worth of installments on players they've recently purchased

The same price you can get World Cup winner, multiple league title and 4 times Champions League winning 28 year old cb Raphael Varane for.

Had a decent season for Brighton Ben (decent not great as their own fans seem to suggest).

But enough to justify him becoming one of the top 10 most expensive cbs ever? Nope.

Highlights the madness of the domestic market.

Arsenal have signed Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares in a deal worth about £8m

The 21-year-old, who played against Arsenal in the Europa League last season, is the Gunners' first signing of the summer.

He made 25 first-team appearances for the Lisbon club and also been capped for Portugal Under-21s.

"He is a young player with great promise who has developed very well," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.

"Nuno's arrival will give the squad extra strength and options in defence, particularly with this energy on the left side of the pitch.

Not sure what he's done to deserve that price tag. Brighton laughing all the way to the bank and they keep Bissouma and Dunk.

Seems like the seagulls have got the fee they wanted.

Thankfully we stood our ground by not paying over the odds for Ben.

Obviously the like of Citeh, Liverpool & Chelsea are unconvinced.

To think our four CB's Llorente, Koch, Struijk & Cooper cost us £32m altogether.

Ridiculous money ...even MB who made him what he is (was) would not pay that for him... Going to be hard to live up to for Ben.

Good luck Ben, you're gonna need it at Arsenal mate

Arteta on his way in a few months.

White couldn't get a game at BHA at CB, from what I saw he was shoved in at RWB. Great coach Potter 😂

Water under the bridge, we've got better for much cheaper ;-)

He can always dream of what could have been at Leeds :)

A good move for Arsenal who needed to strengthen at the back and White in all honesty was being wasted at Brighton. Yes the fee is excessive but that is what you pay for british players and he has proved that he can play at this level so there isn't the worry for Arsenal that White wouldn't be able to acclimatise to playing in Britain and not be able to handle the pace of the premier league - it is fairly much a risk free signing for them hence the big fee.
