Good Morning. It's Wednesday 23rd June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Will Leeds activate Nahitan Nandez's £31m release clause?

Various media reports are claiming that Leeds are ready to activate Nahitan Nandez's €36million (£31million) release clause. Apparently, Marcelo Bielsa has made it clear to Victor Orta that the 25 year old is top of his wish list. The Cagliari central midfielder played 32 games in Serie A last season, scoring twice and making three assists. It is definitely an area of the pitch Leeds need to strengthen in ahead of next season. Nandez can also play in the holding role or on the right hand side of midfield.

Leeds are further encouraged by the news that Inter Milan, long term admire's of the Uruguayan International are set land Turkey international Hakan Calhanoglu, which should end their interest in him. A host of European clubs have their eye on Nandez, but how many would be prepared or have the facilities to pay over £30m. Nandez's agent Pablo Bentancurt, has said his player wants to play in England and that a move to Leeds is a real possibility. Italian journalist Mina Rzouki was recently quoted as saying...

Cagliari’s Nandez is one of the most underrated players. God he’s been so amazing, especially in Cagliari’s last 3 games. He scored the equaliser against Napoli. Man of the match in the win against Udinese. Against Roma – just wow. Unstoppable.

Leeds battle Foxes for Forest ace

Leeds face a battle with Leicester City over Nottingham Forests prized asset Brennan Johnson. The 20 year old spent last season on loan at Lincoln City (alongside Robbie Gotts) before moving to Salford in January to get more game time, contributing 11 goals and five assists in 43 appearances. The news comes from The Athletics Paul Taylor who has spent over 25 years reporting on the Championship side. He is their equivalent of Phil Hay!

Johnson joined the Forest academy as the age of eight. He switched elegance from England to Wales last year, and has two full International caps with Robert Page's team. Page actually worked with Johnson when he was at the City ground two years ago as a coach. The last thing Chris Hughton wants to do, is to lose one of his best players, but such is the financial predicament of the Championship, that a £10m offer would be difficult for the Midlands club to turn down! Predominantly, Johnson is an attacking midfielder, though he is equally good down either wing.

Blackpool boss full of praise for Leeds

Tangerines boss Neil Critchley was full of praise for Leeds, following his capture of highly rated defender Oliver Casey. The 20 year old was instrumental, alongside Charlie Cresswell at centre back, in helping the young Whites lift the Premier League 2, Division two title at their first attempt! Whilst full of potential, Casey's aspirations of first team football meant searching for a new club; and newly promoted Blackpool were more than happy to oblige! Having Managed the Liverpool youngsters, Critchley has become au fait with the local talent in the area, and is delighted with his new signing...

Olly is a defender with a very good pedigree and is someone we feel will bring real competition to the squad. At just 20 years of age, he is a player who has his best years ahead of him. He has had a great education and upbringing at Leeds United, and is someone who we feel will fit in well within the environment we are building here. “We are looking forward to working with him and helping him develop his game further over the coming years.

The fee is believed to be just under 1m. I can't help wondering why they have a 25% sell on clause?

Nahitan Nandez sounds like the kind of player we need, certainly an area we need more strength in.

Brennan Johnson a left winger? Do we need more youth on the wings with Poved and Summerville trying to break through? Impressive stats last season but it was League One.

Good luck to Olly Casey, hope Blackpool is good for his development. Promising youngster but with Struijk making the step up and the younger Charlie Cresswell coming up behind him it's probably the right move.

Good luck to Olly Casey, definitely the right move for him. We have four senior CB's and Charlie Cresswell ahead of Olly in his development so it's makes sense to move on. Plus Blackpool are newly promoted so it's a club on the up.

Nandez looks to be the real deal and a definite upgrade for the squad. It also sounds like he wants to come to Leeds and play under Bielsa, so things are looking good.

Nandez would replace Dallas or Klich ? Using CJays stats theory Klich had better goals and assists in less time carrying an injury and with Covid.. 30 mill plus you'd certainly hope he's one of the first names on the team sheet if fit. Maybe the plan is Dallas back to LB and Phillips Klich Nandez as the centre mid 3...

What does Bielsa see Dallas as? His first choice left back? A backup No. 8 or just his general go to guy to fill any position?

That 'famous' Revie side only started one game together, Paul Madeley was pretty much ever present filling in wherever. Is that Dallas' role in the team now?

Whatever role you see Dallas playing we definitely need more strength in the middle of midfield, it also gives Bielsa more options in terms of formation.

The famous Revie team was a different era, wonderful as it was that model cannot work anymore. I think Dallas has proved himself one of the first names on the team sheet and for a lot he was player of the season which I would hope was a quality adjudication not a sentimental one. Klich right now maybe better than Nandez albeit 5 yrs older. You would want to improve the first 11 for 30M and I'm not sure he would... Would certainly improve the matchday squad

Bielsa loves to put square pegs in round holes. Dallas can fit anywhere plus he is an intelligent player. He knows what he can and can't do

How do you reckon Klich is better than Nandez?

If Bielsa wants him and he wants to come then go for it. He should develop into a world class player under Bielsa and I'm sure he's aware of this.

I said probably. I get he's not worth 30M but more assists and goals last season playing less time, with an injury and covid. We live and die by stats here so I feel comfortable using them here

Nandez 2 goals 2 assists in 2741 minutes
Klich 4 goals 5 assists in 2399 minutes

Now I know Klich is a class footballer using the eye test too, one of the best players at the club. He's system au fait, and has 2 more years in him at this level at least .. His performance v Liverpool setting the tone for the season and one of the top three performances of the season...

Premiership is stronger than Serie A

With the same logic that he applies to Tyler Roberts.

I watched Nandez the other day against Chile.
He played decently. But I don't know if he costs 30 million.

I don't like buy out clauses, they tend to be around double the true value so I'd assume he's worth around 10-15 M.

Wales have been keeping their Tyro Messi under wraps and will now unleash him during the KO stage of the tournament, Europe should be afraid, very afraid

Not seen him play, but watching the highlight reels he does look like a real un :)

He's young, quick, amazingly skillful, has an eye for a killer pass and the goal, can play in numerous positions, seems to like the physical side (typical Uruguayan), he's difficult to knock off the ball, works his knackers off, and would be a real goal and assist machine for us.

I would really push the boat out to get him as our marquee signing this summer.

He also looks like an incredibly passionate person, similar to Bielsa, so I think we need more of that in this team.
