Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 8th July) - Phillips happy at Leeds and doesn’t want to move

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Thursday 8th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Phillips happy at Leeds and doesn’t want to move

After another fine display for the three lions last night, Kalvin Phillips stature amongst the midfield elite continuous to grow; as does the desire for the top clubs in Europe to try and lure the 25 year old away from Elland Road. Phillips agent is Kevin Sharpe, who started his career at Leeds as a left back back in 1992. Although becoming an England U18 International, Sharpe was far down the pecking order at ER, and was eventually sold to Wigan three years later. After his football career came to an end, he tried his luck with Management (with Northwich Victoria and Harrogate Town), but it didn't work out, so he became a licenced agent!

After much speculation about Phillips future, Sharpe has set the record straight, telling would be suitors that Phillips is going nowhere...

Before Kalvin signed the final contract, we were so interested that we sat down and looked at all the strengths and weaknesses. His hope was never to leave, but to stay and play for the team he supported as a kid. The contract he signed in September 2019 included provisions for Leeds to reach the Premier League, so everything is ready for the top flight. We knew it was a bit of gambling, but we knew Leeds would get there under Bielsa, and obviously they did.

There may be clubs that are actually watching Kalvin right now, because the more successful you are, the more interesting it is to play for England in bigger tournaments, of course. But Kalvin is happy with Leeds and doesn’t want to move anything. It’s the case of taking over what you’re doing for the club and the country.
Liverpool have yet again been linked to a move for Phillips, this time with a suggested price of £80m.

Leeds rejected undisclosed offer from PSG bid for Meslier

French giants Paris St Germain have had an undisclosed offer knocked back by Leeds for the services of French U21 shot stopper Illan Meslier. According to various sources, including the Athletic, Leeds then made their position very clear, so much so that director of football, former Brazilian International Leonardo, has switched his attention to AC Milan's keeper Gigio Donnarumma.

Two more academy stars heading for exit

Several media sources are suggesting that Jordan Stevens and Bryce Hosannah have no future at Elland Road, and will be shown the door.

Hosannah joined from Crystal Palace in August 2017, going straight into the U23's, where he picked up many positive reviews. Last season he was sent out on loan to Bradford City. At first things were going so well, that Leeds extended his contact for another season. Unfortunately the 22 year old was hampered throughout the rest of the season with hamstring problems.

Stevens too, was seen as an up and coming talent that shone through at U23 level. He was signed in 2018 from Forest Gren for an undisclosed sum. He too had a difficult season on loan, not being able to replicate the form he showed for Mark Jacksons team.

Morning EB et all

First off we don’t need to sell our best players so why would we and second the players don’t want to leave end of.

I do feel sorry for many of the U23s they play really well but aren’t quite ready for the first team so they go out on loan to lower league teams who don’t play like we do, some the best obviously can adapt but others struggle and we end up with a player in their early 20s that seems to be going no were so it is probably best they get released but I feel the club should be helping these players to find new clubs not just set them a drift.

Think it's probably a bit like the situation at Man City where they identify the dream of their young talent early, such as Foden, and the introduce him tot he first team gradually rather than send him on loan. They then have some decent players who they think may make it so they sell and include options such as buy back deals or percentages of future profit, such as they appear to have done with Jack Harrison. They will also have players that they think won't make it so will allow then to leave on loan or move anywhere.

I thought Kalvin was a bit shaky in the first half last night, he got caught in possession a couple of times and one or two sloppy passes but he got better as the game went on and was immense in extra time.

A shame about Hosannah and Stevens but it's obvious they are not going to make the first team so they should be allowed to further their career elsewhere. I wish them well.

I doubt none of our star players are going nowhere.

Leeds is their home.

WOW...

That's gotta be a first.

"Agent says player perfectly happy and never wants to leave". Fair play to Kalvin, and also his agent, for not going down the usual "let's poke this one a bit, see how much more money we can generate from speculation..".

Kalvin is a down to earth sensible lad not to have his turned by the Mancunians, Scousers or London boys, he knows where his bread is buttered.

We should claim 25 percent of future transfers.

I reckon between Hasannah, Stevens, Huggins and Casey there are a gem or two.

KP needs a pay rise.

Hossanagh and Stevens and perhaps a few more were maybe had the potential to draft into a Championship squad but the step up to Prem will be too much for them. So it is best for them if they move on. Pity though.

Great news about both Kalvin and Meslier.

Ilan's future is quite bright and I'm glad he's ours.

Far better to spend our money locking these guys up with pay increases than to spend it on transfer fees.

More players should be like KP and state what they want... stop the agents playing their games, I am convinced a lot of players are unduly influenced by their agents... it comes at a cost though ...we have to pay KP what his market value dictates...same with all of them ...

He's coming home, he's coming home, Kalvin's coming home. He's a home boy, i won't say mummies boy, cause he'd kick me into the stands. It will all depend on how rich he wants to become and how many trophies he wants to collect. This season will tell us a lot.
