Kristoffer Klaesson - DONE DEAL, WELCOME

Post by Cjay »

It would seem that this young man is our number 1 target to replace Kiko Casilla and challenge Meslier.

Numerous reports from Norway sau that discussions are underway and Phil said today in his article "Orta holds a long-standing interest in Valerenga’s Kristoffer Klaesson and would favour a deal for the 20-year-old if Leeds can negotiate an acceptable fee".

Klaesson is 20 years old, plays for Norwegian team Vålerenga who are currently 3rd in the Norwegian league and finished 3rd last season.

He made his debut 2 years ago and has gone on to make over 50 appearances.

He is also an experienced youth international who has represented Norway at multiple different levels as well as receiving a 1st team national call up but not yet a cap.

His senior league record is 54 games, 73 conceded and 12 clean sheets.

Would prefer older, experienced keeper happy to be backup and from whom Meslier could learn. Why bring in another kid when we have Caprille?

Caprile looks real quality so I too don't understand this move. I think Caprile is only a year younger IIRC so he's Mesliers age when Meslier made his debut. So it can't be an age thing.

Can see both sides of the argument with this one and if Orta has been tracking him for a while it may be that he is a far better prospect than Caprile. Would presume he'd come in to be back up and push for a place and it seems he has a fair amount of starting experience too so it wouldn't be like simply throwing a kid in cold. For me it makes good sense as if he is decent it gives us the option of cashing in on one of them in a couple of years time and we saw with Messlier that when he was called upon he was ready - yes a couple of wobbles but overall did superbly well - the same sort of opportunity could arise for this lad.

Reports suggesting that post brexit work permit rules may scupper this deal.

Have to say i am far from convinced.

The standard he plays at will be league 1 at best.

Also clips appeared online of his teams 3-1 defeat the other day and the errors he made for 2 of the goals were as bad as Kiko ever did.

Far from convinced by this potential signing.

To inexperienced, plays at a poor level.

Especially as Meslier was only 3 years and only has two years left.

Why does that Romano bloke always act like he's itk when this was common knowledge?

Far far from convinced about this.

Even his own clubs fans arent convinced by him, no suggestion he is this wonderkid that was suggested and he has made 2 or 3 right howlers just in his last few games.

West Ham signing Alphonse Areola on loan today, know who id have preferred.

Perhaps Leeds see Meslier as a player they can make decent coin on?

think areola is on like 150k which would be madness for us to pay for a back up keeper

Perhaps Messlier, or his agent, didn't want to sign a longer deal and as such we are sort of resigned to the fact he will be looking to leave in the not too distant future.

Fair point Dan.

Think Arelola is class myself though, would be a far better challenger to Meslier.

Not convinced at all about this kid from what ive seen and read.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. He'll be off next summer I think.

I am happy for this move, he has sharp reflexes. I just hope he works more on holding on to the ball when saving, instead of giving away corners. We know how «good» we are at set pieces so don’t want unnecessary corners against us.

Allrounder was on the ball :)

We should probably update this thread.

LUFC confirm the signing of Norway youth keeper Kristoffer Klaesson on a four year contract.
