Tokyo Olympic Games

Post by whiteswan »

Two South African footballers have become the first competitors to test positive for Coronavirus in the athletes village in Tokyo. Another athlete from outside the village has also tested positive....

Wonder how many more there will be with the madness of these games going ahead

5 years training could be gone in a heartbeat if you get pinged you've been in contact with a positive test and have to isolate 5-7 days. They're not going to hold the event. So we could see athletes that would not maybe get in semi finals get into finals.

Interesting point faaip, one hadn't thought of.

Six athletes and two staff members from Team GB's athletic team are self isolating after being identified as close contacts of an individual who tested positive on their flight to Japan on 15 July

This whole thing (Olympics) is gonna ba a right farce!

You have to feel for the athletes who have dedicated everything to participating in the games and becoming an Olympian. For most it is a one shot deal. But life can be cruel.
Most of us in life at some point suffer a set back, that puts paid to our dreams. And most of us pick ourselves up, re-evaluate and adapt.

Not a great start to the Olympics for us, both the men and women's eights looked poor and now have to qualify via the repechage

Some cracking goals in the Olympics

This is what' we'll be up against in the World Cup next summer.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/57932274

England don't score goals like this.

This doesn't do a lot for women's goalkeeping
Both Keepers were very poor and maybe responsible for a lot of the goal

Made heavy weather of this in the end. 3-1, SA have hardly played with 11 players, We've scored one of the maybe 12 short corners we had, missed a couple of open goal.. Will have to be better v Belgium and Germany

A couple of great moments this evening (Oz time).

First there was Anna Kiesenhofers’ amazing effort in the women’s road race, and now I’ve just seen Uzbeki gymnast Okasan Chusovitina competing in her 8th Olympics.

Got to love the Games.

Problem is, for us in the UK, the BBC are only allowed to show 2 different sports at any one time. They were totally outbid by Discovery so are very limited on live sport.

Our TV broadcaster only has a couple of channels as well, and they are very Oz-focussed (including interviewing family and friends rather than showing events), but they do offer a free streaming service which allows you to choose almost anything.

It's a real disappointment for a lot of people over here Harry. The BBC have received lots of complaints, folk saying we've gone back decades to the time of only two TV channels! But unfortunately in this day and age, money talks. But how many people have a Discovery subscription?
Thank goodness for 'The Hundred'

I'm not surprised that people are unhappy.
